Dear Advisors for Incoming New Students,
Thank you for welcoming in our new penguins!
You may have already received messages connecting you with your new advisees. Those will continue as more students deposit. I thought I'd share a couple of reminders at this time:
1. Math Placement: Fewer students need to take it. Here's the scoop.
2. Updated Information
Please use the DU Advising website as a resource. Let us know if you find anything that needs updating!
3. Useful Courses for First Year and Transfer Students
Please encourage First Year students to take Navigating College/ EDUC 1000--Students who take this class are retained at higher rates and earn higher GPAs. The class supports students by building community and providing success tools during this important time of transition.
Please encourage Transfer students to take Career Jump Start/ EDUC 1201--
So many students feel anxious about "what's next?" and this course gives them practical steps to prepare for their professional lives.
Happy Advising!

In the meantime, if there are any questions about which courses count for which requirements, please feel free to reach out to me directly.
Note, AP exams will be sent in early July and students!
Take care!

Advising Updates: Ambiguity and Hard-Working Staff, 5/14/24 (Elvove, message)
Dear "Summer" Advising Community,
I have been receiving lots of unusual questions about advising for the incoming class--not surprising since we are in the middle of transitioning to a new system and the handful of hard-working staff who are working on this are buried under their to-do lists!
I thought I would share what I know to help you all figure out how to best operate this summer. Also, since I am not involved in any implementation right now, I do not have the latest information. If others of you know more or have tools that you're using, by all means, please share!
Here's what I've heard:
1. This is a simple report that shows applicants for this upcoming semester. If you filter by "move to student", these "may" be deposited students by major. I've heard that it may not be 100% accurate but it's close. It also shows students who have, miraculously, registered. You can download it as a csv and filter by major. These students may or may not be showing up in your Ellucian advising page. Kinks are still being ironed out.
2. Last Wednesday, Admissions sent out messages asking newly deposited students to take placement assessments. They have been slowly sending email messages to students who have completed placement assessment, to connect them with their advisors. You should be cc'd on that email. I've been told that more will come out today and tomorrow.
3. Placement Assessment scores should be showing up soon in the new system. Kristen Coleman will be sending out a message to instruct you on where/how to read the scores when she is able to enter them with accuracy.
I know that many of you feel pressure to get started on advising. I'm hopeful that many pieces will fall into place to support your efforts.

Advising Updates: Ambiguity and Hard-Working Staff, 5/15/24 (Elvove, message)
Dear Summer Advisors,
Data integration updates are taking longer than anticipated. We have a temporary solution to provide you with the most updated information about math and chemistry placement scores. You will find a folder with the scores in the shared google drive: Admissions-Advising-Registrar> Advising Information for Summer and Fall 2024> Math and Chemistry placements. We will add dates to the title of the documents when they have been updated.
That said, if your student has taken the appropriate placement tests, feel free to go ahead and get them registered!
Please note--this is a temporary solution until the integration is possible. Thank you for your patience with the process.
Sincerely,
Kristen and Naomi
