APPROACH
Theoretical / Project based
The course follows up the work begun in the second year, encouraging individual work and further reflections on how to modify the word “sculpture” to fit its contemporary meaning. From three dimensional objects made of materials and languages pertaining to the history of art, to the assembly of multiple elements from different disciplinary areas and from the use of different linguistic means: from food to sound, from drawing to video, from promenade to itinerary. Projects start from a physical element in order to manage space while developing an idea. Exploring the concept of relationship between individuals and their surrounding universe, the course will explore the reading of the codes, methods and places that define contemporary art.
This course is made of a single module of 8 CFA credits.
The course aims at providing further update on materials, ways and languages of contemporary sculpture. Structured as a permanent laboratory, the course goal is to refine the students’ expressive skills related to the creation of three-dimensional objects, moving away from the traditional meaning of the discipline. Through discussion and the analysis of their own works and those produced by other artists, the students acquire the necessary tools to approach the world of contemporary art.
The teaching carries on the reflection on what is meant by sculpture today, and provides new technical, creative and analytical tools - from three-dimensional objects made with the canonical materials and languages of art history, to the assembly of multiple elements coming from different disciplinary fields and to the use of different linguistic means. Exploring the concept of relationship between individuals and the universe that surrounds them, the course plans to trace the reading of the codes, ways and places that define the contemporary artistic sphere.
