The Sculpture module begins by questioning the meaning of sculpture today. From three-dimensional objects made of standard materials and languages of the history of art, to the assembly of different elements coming from various disciplinary fields and from the use of different linguistic tools: from food to sound, from drawing to video, and from walking to following a path. The research starts with a physical element and, through the development of an idea, ends in the management of space. By exploring the concept of relationship between individuals and the universe around them, the course aims at understanding the codes, methods, and places that define the contemporary artistic environment.
The Performing Arts module aims at providing the students with the necessary skills to create performative actions of the body, gestures or objects in a specific space. Each elaborated work derives from gestures seen as the primary expression of communication before they become the linguistic tool of a cultural and artistic identity. This module’s “experiential” methodology adopts physical and actor training methods in order to provide knowledge, allowing the students to acquire mature consciousness of both the artistic possibilities and the unpredictable aspects of the world around us. The spaces, therefore, become authentic moments of encounter where each developed project focuses on the dramaturgy of the space and on non-verbal ways of expression. The module includes seminars and workshops in collaboration with artists and performers.
The total credits for this course are 8, divided as follows:
Sculpture: 6 CFA
Performing Arts: 2 CFA
The Sculpture module introduces the students to the new materials, ways and languages of contemporary sculpting. Through the practical laboratory, analysis and theoretical reasoning are introduced to new ways of creating three-dimensional objects.
The Performing Arts module, on the other hand, starts from the body as a means of artistic expression, addressing relevant case studies and trying to understand and create performative events. The places become authentic meeting occasions, where the work focuses on the dramaturgy of space and on non-verbal languages.
From three-dimensional objects made of the canonical materials and languages of art history, to the assembly of multiple elements from different disciplinary fields and to the use of different linguistic means; from food to sound, from drawing to video, from walking to itinerary, from body to performance, the Sculpture module introduces new ways to make sculpture in the 19th Century.
The Performing Arts module is based on the training of students which enables them to create performative actions in a specific space through their body, gestures or objects. The work arises from gestures as the primary expression of communication that become a language of cultural and artistic identity. The “experiential” method, together with the physical and actor training, becomes an instrument of knowledge that allows greater awareness of the world around us and of its unpredictable aspects. The module is divided into seminars and workshops in collaboration with artists and performers.
