In this activity, students write poems inspired by wildlife. In the abbreviated version you will create a diamante.
Select an animal, any animal. If you can observe it directly, do so. Otherwise, you can view online videos or photos of the animal.
A diamante is a "diamond-shaped" poem created with nouns, adjectives and participles. A word bank is a list of words that you can choose from to create the poem.
List nouns that come to mind when you think about your selected animal. A noun is a person, place or thing.
List adjectives that describe the animal or where it lives. Adjectives describe nouns.
List participles that come to mind. Participles are "ing" words formed from verbs (action words) and used as adjectives.
Using your word bank, select words and put them in the diamante form. Share your diamante on the Animal Poetry jamboard.
