Basic Definition of Morality
When we're talking about morality, this is basically the concept of distinguishing what is wrong and what is right. We use morality every single day in our lives because we make decisions based on what we think is right. An example of this is that we choose to do our chores because we want to help our family. This is righteous because your intention is to help and the outcome of your help is good. There are situations though that we choose to do the wrong decision. Such as being disrespectful which is wrong because it is not the proper way to approach someone. Rarely though, there would be times that we just do something without in consideration of what is right and wrong. You just feel like doing it.
All of these mentioned actually refers to the three kinds of morality and what are these you may ask? Let's find out!
Kinds of Morality
1. Moral - The act of doing the righteous. Such as helping someone who's struggling on a homework, feeding a stray dog, being honest, and so on.
2. Immoral - This is the act of doing the wrong doings. Examples are cyberbullying people on the internet, cheating, littering, and so on.
3. Amoral - Refers to the act of deciding to do something without thought no matter if it's wrong or not. Usually done by people who are unaware or unknowledgeable about their actions.
How do you know what's right and wrong?
One of the first things you should consider in deciding or choosing something is the possible outcomes of your action. Let's say that if you have two choices. One is that you are able to help the person and the other is that you choose to ignore the person. If you are capable of helping, then choose to help because you can show kindness through this. You will feel great knowing that you did the right thing to do. If you ignored the person, they would feel bad for themselves. Even though, it's not your fault, but then you were capable of helping just choosing not to help is not right. Choose the one that benefits more for all than the other. We have a lot of problems in our society, especially poverty. As much as possible, try to help those who are in need!
To help you more on this, you can apply the Habits of Highly Effective People. Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, then to be Understood. This habit focuses on analyzing the situation first giving you the ability to understand. You should see yourself in someone else's shoes so you can understand others. This means that you should know what it feels like to be in someone else's situation and know what they are struggling with. Now, if you know how they're struggling then think of a way to help them.
