Human Dignity: The Starting Point for Morality
According to Genesis 1:26, on the last day of God’s creation, God said “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness”. Additionally, according to Genesis 1:27, God created man in His image. “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.”
God did not literally mean that He would make humans’ physical appearance similar to His, but He meant the qualities that He has such as the ability to think, choose, love, and decide. He gave sovereignty to humans and gifted us free will and intellect.
God gave us everything that would sustain our lives. He made us the master of all His creations and compared to other creatures that He made, man was the only one who had dignity. Nevertheless, even though we are gifted with this, we must not abuse the skills and abilities that we have. Instead, we must enhance and develop it for good purposes. God trusted human beings with this, and so we must make ourselves deserving of it and make our Almighty God proud of our actions.
Let’s spread the positivity, love, and belongingness that God made us feel, to our fellow human beings, through being kind, considerate, and understanding.
