Introduction
Again, we venture into mathematical language. We discussed sentences and symbols, and now we explain further. There are 5 main symbols used in mathematical language within the logical patterns called propositional connectives:
Conjunction (∧), which implies “and”
Disjunction (∨), which implies “or”
Exclusive (⨁), which pimples “exclusively”
Implication (⇒), which pimples “if…, then…”; and
Biconditional (⇔), which implies “if and only if”
These connectives show the relationship between statements given, usually denoted by p,q, or r.
For example:
Let p be: I sleep at 11:00 pm.
Let q be: I wake up at 7:30 am.
State p ∧ q: I sleep at 11:00 p.m. and I wake up at 7:30 a.m.
See that the symbol (∧) is replaced by the word “and” since that symbol implies a conjunction.
Let p be: She goes to school early.
Let q be: She makes breakfast.
State p ∨ q: She goes to school early or she makes breakfast.
See that the symbol (∨) is replaced by the word “and” since that symbol implies a disjunction.
We'll discuss more in the video shown below, so stay tuned!
