Natural Features: The city has fertile lands and hot springs, making it an agricultural and tourism hub.
Pre-colonial Calamba: It was originally inhabited by Tagalog communities, thriving through fishing, farming, and trade via Laguna de Bay.
Spanish Era: Calamba was established as a pueblo in 1742. The name "Calamba" comes from "kalan-banga" (clay stove and pot), reflecting its pottery industry. During this time, vast lands were converted into haciendas, controlled by religious orders.
Under American rule, the hacienda system was reformed, allowing tenant farmers to own land.
During World War II, Calamba witnessed fierce battles and was heavily affected by Japanese atrocities. The Calamba Massacre of 1945 is a dark chapter in its history.\
Post-War Development and Cityhood
After the war, Calamba developed into an industrial and economic hub. The establishment of factories, resorts, and real estate projects led to urbanization.
It became a component city in 2001, reflecting its economic growth.
