The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) is the primary agency in the Philippines responsible for preventing and suppressing fires. They also conduct fire safety inspections, enforce fire codes, and provide fire safety education to the public. Their work is crucial for protecting lives and property from fire-related hazards.
During my work immersion, we received training in various aspects of firefighting and fire safety. This included practical training on essential skills like hose folding and rope knotting. The theoretical component of my immersion covered fire codes, fire detection systems, procedures, regulations, and the proper handling of collected funds and the proper use of BFP uniforms. The instructors were knowledgeable and patient, ensuring we understood the material.
Before starting our immersion, I honestly expected it to be somewhat slow-paced and maybe even boring at times. However, I was stunned that while there were moments of downtime, the hands-on training and the learning experience were incredibly rewarding. I learned so much more than I anticipated, and the overall experience was very positive and enjoyable.
