Locations: The giant sloth was born in South America about 35 million years ago. Around 23 million years later, the giant sloth spread out to North America, and 1 million years later, it reached certain parts of Canada and Alaska. It would live in the rocky mountains and along the coast of the United States.
Habitats: Because fossils of the giant sloth were found there, it showed that the giant sloth could live in a variety of habitats but preferred woodlands and forests (mainly spruce and mixed conifer-hardwood habitats).
Descendants: The giant sloth is related to sloths, of course, but also (distantly) armadillos and anteaters. The giant sloth evolved into three-fingered and two-fingered tree sloths.
Reason on Extinction: Giant sloths went extinct because of human hunting and climate change.
Human Hunting: The humans would hunt these animals because they were slow-moving and would produce a lot of meat, weighing in at around 2200 pounds (998 kg).
Climate: The climate would affect the giant sloth because it would keep rising, each year getting hotter. This would affect the giant sloth because they couldn't obtain resources easily anymore. Heat would affect their energy, so they would be slower and weaker. vulnerable to predators.
