Chapter 2: Passion

Passion is an intense feeling, it’s an urge to achieve something. Finding passion may sound easy to some people but in most cases, people struggle to pinpoint it. They are often confused. You may love something but, there is no way you can make a living out of it, should it be your passion? This is the dilemma every person face while trying to seek their passion.

Now, start with a positive mindset. If you feel like you have no passion or will not find one, you have lost before even starting. Every normal person has a passion and you have one too.

Get a pen and paper, write down all the things you have done in your life that made you happy. Describe them thoroughly. Find every detail of that achievement that made you smile. Pen down all the feelings you want to experience again. Ask yourself, what are the changes you want to see in your life the next morning you wake up? This will give you an idea of your passion.

One quick tip here – suppose, you love teaching in school. You may select teaching as your passion but wait, there are a lot of things involved in teaching. Which part of the job do you enjoy the most? Is it the kids at school? The books? Or the respect you get from your community for being a teacher? You may find that you’re in love with kids, not the actual teaching. Now you have a broader area to work with, you can go for any job related to kids.

So, never make the mistake of loosely selecting what you like. Dive deep inside it to find the heart of your interests.

While looking for the passion you might confront with things that you enjoy doing, things that make your heart sing, stuffs you are in love with. But, before jumping to the conclusion ask yourself if it will pay for your food or your next vacation. Say for example, you like to help people, do you see a career out of it? If yes then go for it. Every hobby can be an earning source if you can solves some problems with your hobby. So don’t throw your hobbies away, use them.

Sometimes you may get a confused knowing that you love poetry, you enjoy using new technologies and you love marketing. So, how are you going to use all of them in your career? Choose your career wisely where every ingredient of your happiness will be useful. Bring them all together and look for such a job/career that is going to pay you and value your interests.

Here are 10 common questions that will help you determine your passion more accurately. Take a pen and paper, go to a quiet place and answer these questions very carefully. Write them all down for further analysis. Remember, don’t lie to yourself.

1. What are the skills you have from which you can earn a living easily?
2. What type of input does your friends, family and collogues ask from you?
3. What skills came to you naturally? (Without giving any effort like study or training)
4. What is it that makes you lose the track of time?
5. What are the things you do with full confidence?
6. What is the problem you see in your society or neighborhood that you would like to fix?
7. What result brings you the most satisfaction?
8. What is it that you enjoyed the most today?
9. How can you do that more and more every day?
10. Who do you want to be in future? (Name celebrity, sports star, businessman or anyone you like)

After answering these questions you will definitely find at least few things that attacts you the most. If it’s one then congratulations, you got your passion. But, if you find several options then you have to do another analysis by distinguishing them by your hobbies and source of income. You can keep multiple passions but choose one for your career that is going to pay you enough to live. Keep your hobbies alive as well.
