In this case you can apply for what is called an Exam Deferral (https://www.tudublin.ie/for-students/student-services-and-support/examinations/exam-forms/ .) This will allow you to attempt the examination at the next available sitting.
To apply for an exam deferral you must obtain the correct form from the examinations office, complete it and submit it with supporting evidence for making a deferral request to the School Administrator. Applications will be processed and assessed by school management and deferrals will only be granted in cases of genuine need.
Personal circumstances will be taken into consideration when your results are being considered. If you have failed an exam/assessment you will need to repeat the examination/assessment in the next available session. This may require that you register for the module again.
You must contact the lecturer of the module if you need to repeat an assessment. They will indicate when the assessment can be repeated.

You will need to complete a form to repeat any examination/assessment. The form will be available from the examinations office and there is a fee required to be paid for repeat examinations.

Late submission of assessment material will result in penalties being applied. The latest possible date for submission will be the last teaching week of the semester with agreement of the lecturer concerned.
