Visiting the Lincoln Native Garden

Why should people come to the Lincoln Native Garden?

Did you know that the Lincoln Native Garden is a Certified Schoolyard Habitat by the National Wildlife Federation? In order to be a Certified Habitat, the Native Garden has to provide food, water, shelter, places to raise young, and encourage sustainable practices like use of organic materials, mulching, removal and prevention of invasive species.

Also, the garden is a certified Monarch Waystation, which means it provides milkweed, nectar sources, and shelter to sustain Monarch butterflies as they migrate through North America.

The Lincoln Native Garden provides a peaceful learning environment where adults and kids can learn more about their surroundings. Each plant marker has a QR code that visitors can scan that shows a student-made video with facts about the plant.

Come visit us! You can see firsthand some Illinois plants and animals in their native habitat. Take a seat on the bench and watch the native birds at our bird feeder and birdbath! You can hear the birds sing, see the bees buzz, and watch our plants grow.
