In the Lincoln School Native Garden, there are at least 30 varieties of beautiful native plants, including flowers, ferns, and grasses. We have the Marsh Blazing star, a purple, magenta, and pink flower that grows 2 to 5 feet tall. It is liked by bees, butterflies, and more. We also have the Purple Coneflower, a pink, purple, and brown flower that grows up to 3 and a half feet tall. Click here for a list of plants growing in the Lincoln Native Garden.
There is also a fern in our Native Garden called the Ostrich Fern. It's green, and few plants are as delicate as the Ostrich Fern. In North America Ostrich Ferns grow to be 3 feet and 6 inches tall. There is also a Tufted Hair grass plant in our Native Garden. It grows to be 2 to 3 feet tall, and it grows July through September in our garden. It's also liked by birds.
In our Native Garden, there are also many fascinating animals. Such as the Monarch Butterfly. The Monarch Butterfly is orange, black, and white. It comes to our garden to drink nectar, and lay it's eggs on the Swamp Milkweed plant.
There are also many species of birds that come to our garden, like the Black-capped Chickadee. We made birdhouses for the Black-capped Chickadees. They are very beautiful and small. They also count on our birdhouses for shelter. Click here for a list of birds seen during Project FeederWatch in the Lincoln Native Garden.
