Coretta Scott King Award Book Club
The Coretta Scott King Award Book Club Lincolnwood's second reading challenge for Third Graders. Students are asked to read from the list provided.
All the titles are Coretta Scott King Award Book Club winners or honor books. The Coretta Scott King Award is given annually to outstanding African American authors and illustrators of books for children and young adults that demonstrate an appreciation of African American culture and universal human values. It was established in 1969.
The award commemorates the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and honors his wife, Mrs. Coretta Scott King, for her courage and determination to continue the work for peace and world brotherhood.
Book titles were chosen carefully, including books of varying authors, illustrators, and genres. All books and e-books/audio will be available in our school library, through SORA, and at the Evanston Public Library.
To participate, students are asked to respond on journal sheets in a packet. They can turn in the packet when completed.
Students who complete the challenge will be rewarded with a celebratory lunch in the LIbrary!
The deadline for reading all 10 books and completing all 10 journal sheets is
Friday March 17!
