Elizabeth Mulvihill - Class of 1983

Elizabeth “Liz” Mulvihill excelled on the court and in the field at Bemidji State University. When she arrived in 1983, she immediately joined the starting lineup for the women’s basketball team and helped build a successful program under coach Joan (Campbell) Anderson. The 1986-87 and 1987-88 co-captain led her teams to an 83-30 overall record, two NSC championships, three trips to the NAIA District 13 playoffs and a 1987 NAIA national tournament appearance. Liz was BSU’s leading rebounder for three consecutive seasons (1983-86) with 229, 189, 216 boards, respectively. In addition, she played in 112 games – more than any other BSU player. Her post-season basketball honors include: All-NSC and All-NSC Academic in 1985-86 and 1986-87 and All-District 13 in 1985-86.

In track and field, she also was a four-year letter winner and two-time team captain (1986-87 and 1987-88). As a shot putter, she was a selected All-NSC in 1985-86, 1986-87 and 1987-88 and was a national qualifier in 1985, 1986, 1987 and 1988. She placed sixth in 1986, fourth in 1987 and was NAIA and NCAA Division II National Champion in 1988 after setting indoor records at both the NAIA and NCAA Division II meets. Her 51’-9 1/4” throw ranks among the top 15 Division II throws of all time. Following her senior season, Mulvihill participated in the 1988 Olympic trials. As a javelin thrower, she qualified for the national meet in 1986 and 1987. Her post-season honors include: All-NSC and NAIA All-America in 1986, 1987 and 1988, NCAA Division II All-America award winner in 1988, and Academic All-America selection in 1987.
