Caleb graduated from Randolph High School in 2005. As a Rocket, Caleb was a two-sport start where he earned all-state honors in basketball and a Division 1 scholarship in baseball.

On the baseball diamond, Caleb was a three-time all conference selection. During his senior year he was a perfect 9-0 with a 0.69 ERA.

After graduation, Caleb attended South Dakota State. After college he was selected in the 18th round of the Major League Baseball Draft by the Milwaukee Brewers. Caleb was eventually released and was playing amateur baseball for the Randolph Railcats before signing with the St. Paul Saints. Caleb signed with the Minnesota Twins on June 12, 2009.

In 2013 Caleb received the call-up to the Minnesota Twins in late May and never looked back, spending the rest of the season in the Majors. Caleb went his first 17 Major League appearances, a span of 19.2 innings, without allowing a run. He had two other strings of at least seven appearances without allowing an earned run and finished the season 3-2 with a 1.76 ERA in 49 games. In 46 innings pitched he walked just 14 while striking out 39. Caleb earned the Minnesota Twins Rookie of the Year award following the season.
