Welcome back! Our staff loved seeing our students back in the building again this week!
This week our staff has offered a number of reteachings of expectations in their classrooms and around the building and we are off to a great start to the second half of the school year!
Our wrestling and girls volleyball seasons have begun and we have over 40 students participating in both sports!
Attendance Direct Correlation to Grades: Students who attend school regularly have significantly higher grades and reading skills, even if they have previously struggled academically.
AAPPL Testing: Families of our dual-language students will be receiving their AAPPL testing results today. This will show the level of Spanish acquisition that their child has achieved in the areas of reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Please contact the Main Office if you do not receive this electronically.
MHS Incoming Freshmen Night: On January 15, Mundelein High School will welcome the Class of 2030, and their families, to the school for an evening designed to introduce the ninth-grade experience. The program will highlight their academic offerings, a day-in-the-life of a ninth grader, available student supports, and the extracurricular opportunities at MHS. Here is a letter for more information.
Access Testing: ACCESS testing will begin January 20th and we will be assessing how our multilingual students are growing in their English language proficiency. Each English Language Learner will be taking four exams and they will be assessed on their reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. Here is a letter for more information. Feel free to reach out to the Main Office if you have any questions.
8th Grade Dance: 8th grade parents, please complete this Form if you would be willing to assist with our 8th grade Dance on May 26th, from 6-8:30pm.
8th Grade Yearbook Tributes: This year the Yearbook staff is continuing a program only for 8th graders and their families. This program allows families to buy an eighth of a page personal ad in the Yearbook to congratulate their 8th grader on their graduation from West Oak Middle School. All parent tributes are to be submitted by Friday, February 27, to ensure they will be included in the Yearbook. Here is the document to sign up.
Great Kindness Challenge: The week of January 26-January 30, our school will be participating in the Great Kindness Challenge, a global initiative that encourages students and staff to create a culture of kindness through simple, meaningful actions. This year, the theme of the challenge is: Show Us Your Kind! Please review this letter for more information.
Acting Auditions: The Kirk Players are proud to announce the auditions for their upcoming children's show, "Alice in Wonderland"! They are hoping to have West Oak Middle School students try out for this production as two of them were in last spring's show. Please review this flyer for more information.
Illinois Youth Survey: All 8th grade students are asked to participate in a voluntary survey called the Illinois Youth Survey the week of February 2nd. The purpose of this survey is to better understand Illinois youth risk and protective behaviors as they relate to students and their success. Participation will involve completing a survey, with no names or identification numbers, that will be confidentially administered by a classroom teacher. Your child’s participation will last no more than one class period (40-45 minutes). Here is the link to the opt-out website if you would not like your child to take this exam. Let the Main Office know if you would like your child to opt-out of the survey.
SHS Freshmen Dance: Please click on this flyer for information regarding any incoming Stevenson High School students that would like to take a dance class.
