Dear West Oak Intermediate Families,
Our D76 Loves to Read Book Challenge is going strong, and we are so proud of the excitement our students are showing for reading! 📚 Currently, 3rd grade is in the lead for the most pages read. Way to go! Thank you for encouraging your child to read at home and log their pages. Every page counts as we continue building a love of reading across our school.
Next week, we will celebrate the conclusion of D76 Loves to Read with a fun Spirit Week to keep the momentum going. We’ll wrap up the celebration with our February Assembly on Friday, where we will recognize our Honesty Students of the Month and celebrate all of the incredible reading happening at WOIS.
Thank you for your continued partnership in fostering strong readers. Have a wonderful weekend! 📖🐺

Parent-Teacher Conferences: Parent-Teacher Conferences are just around the corner and will take place on March 19th. Sign-up information will be sent through ParentSquare on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, from your child’s classroom teacher. Specials teachers, advanced teachers, and related service providers will be sending sign-up information on Thursday, February 26 if you wish to meet with them, as well.
These conferences will be student-led, and we encourage students to attend alongside you. We look forward to sharing the progress students have made so far and discussing our goals as we head toward the end of the school year.
Session 2 of Afterschool Clubs: Session 2 of WOIS afterschool clubs will begin after spring break. Girls Who Code and Intramurals sign ups are now open. Students received paper copies of the sign up forms to take home today. If your child wishes to participate in one of these afterschool clubs, please complete the sign up form and have your child return it to the club sponsor listed on the form or their classroom teacher by Monday, March 2nd.
SEL Focus of the Month: February's SEL focus is HONESTY! Students will be developing skills like emotion regulation, positive self-talk, and stress-management through our Character Strong curriculum during morning meeting. Please see below for the monthly family newsletters:
D76 Loves to Read: Next week is the final week of our D76 Loves to Read celebration, and we’re ending with a bang! Join us for a fun-filled Read Across America Spirit Week. Show your love for reading by participating in each day’s themed dress-up event. Click here to find out the theme for each day!
5Essentials Survey: Each year parents, students, and teachers across Illinois will have an opportunity to participate in the annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey. This survey is designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of your child’s school. As a parent/guardian, this opportunity will allow you to share your thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness in a survey about your child’s school. Please take a few minutes to complete the Illinois 5Essentials Parent Survey. Your feedback is greatly important to us and your participation allows us to focus our continued improvement efforts. After completing the survey, if you'd like to be entered into a raffle for a free dinner for you and your family, complete this quick form!
We need 20% of our families to participate in this survey in order to receive the results.
SMILE Dentist Visit: The SMILE dentist is coming to West Oak Intermediate School on March 18th. If you are interested in having your child seen by the dentist at school please click here. If you have questions, please contact Julie Marchese at 847-388-2599.

Bus Bulletin via Lakeside Transportation: To help you stay informed about any future bus delays directly from our transportation company, you can sign up for Bus Bulletin notifications here: Transportation Page. This service will send updates via email about delays or route changes.
Diamond Awards: New to this year, we ask families to complete this nomination Form if they would like to recognize a staff member they feel are going above and beyond with what they do in the classroom, school, or district. Please consider spreading the positivity by highlighting the great work that staff our doing in our district.
D76 CARES: At D76, the well-being of our students and families is our top priority. Understanding the critical role mental health plays in student success, we have launched D76 CARES - a comprehensive initiative aimed at improving access to quality mental health services across our community. D76 CARES stands for Community, Advocacy, Resilience, Engagement, and Support. Treatment services are initially provided free of charge to district families for up to 8 sessions. Click HERE for treatment request.
Ms. Uzzardi's class had fun helping with morning announcements this week!
Students are super excited about the new rewards in the Wolfpack Warehouse. Students pick up their purchases each Thursday and Friday
Ms. Gomez's class is busy working on their multi-paragraph writing skills to prepare for IAR testing next month!
Reflecting on Report Cards: When reviewing your child’s report card with them, focus on growth and progress rather than just the grades. Ask questions like, “What are you most proud of?” or “What’s one area you’d like to improve?” Use the report card as a starting point for a positive conversation about effort, goals, and next steps. Celebrating strengths while setting small, achievable goals helps children build responsibility, confidence, and a growth mindset.
Your student's classroom teacher should be your first point of contact. For building-related information, please call the front office at 847-970-3544 or contact the following individuals via email:
