8th Grade Yearbook Tributes: This year the Yearbook staff is continuing a program only for 8th graders and their families. This program allows families to buy an eighth of a page personal ad in the Yearbook to congratulate their 8th grader on their graduation from West Oak Middle School. All parent tributes are to be submitted by Friday, February 27th, to ensure they will be included in the Yearbook. Here is the document to sign up.
Student Attendance Matters: Prevent "Academic Snowballing" Missing just two days a month can lead to falling behind, making students feel overwhelmed and more likely to skip again.

Sign-up information was sent via ParentSquare this week from each of your child’s teachers. These conferences will be student-led, and we encourage students to attend alongside you. Please indicate what type of conference you would like (In-person/virtual) and if translation will be needed. 5Essentials: Each year parents, students and teachers across Illinois will have an opportunity to participate in the annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey. This survey is designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of your child’s school. As a parent/guardian, this opportunity will allow you to share your thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness in a survey about your child’s school. Please take a few minutes to complete the Illinois 5 Essentials Survey. Your feedback is greatly important to us and your participation allows us to focus our continued improvement efforts in the following areas:
Effective Leaders
Collaborative Teachers
Involved Families
Supportive Environments
Ambitious Instruction
We need 20% of our families to participate in this survey in order to receive the results. After completing the survey you are invited to enter the raffle to win a dinner, delivered by Mr. Pedersen, by completing this Form. The raffle winner will be determined on March 20, with the

MHS Summer School: Incoming freshmen have several summer school options at MHS. Students may take Personal Finance during the summer to fulfill the consumer education graduation requirement. This option can free up a class period during the school year for a study hall or an additional elective. All freshmen are required to complete one full year of P.E., which includes one semester of Health and one semester of P.E. Incoming freshmen may enroll in the online summer Health course. Students who complete Health during summer school must still complete a full year of P.E. during the school year. Some students, particularly athletes, prefer this option so they can enroll in Freshman Strength or another P.E. course for the full year. Students in band or choir who are eligible for a P.E. waiver may take Health in the summer to open an additional class period for an elective or study hall during the school year. All summer school information can be found on our website: MHS Summer School.
Diamond Awards: New to this year, we ask families to complete this nomination Form if they would like to recognize a staff member they feel are going above and beyond with what they do in the classroom, school, or district.
