Dear West Oak Intermediate Families,
We've had a fun-filled week here at WOIS! We enjoyed celebrating our Honesty students of the month today at our February Assembly. We also recognized the students and classroom with the most pages read in the month of February to close out D76 Loes to Read. Congratulations to Ms. Licea's class!
Lotería Night this past Friday was such a wonderful celebration of our D76 community! Students and families gathered in the WOMS cafeteria for an evening of D76-themed Lotería, snacks, and prizes. The energy in the room was joyful and welcoming, and it was so special to see our families connecting, laughing, and spending time together. We are so grateful for the strong and supportive community we have here at WOIS. Be sure to check out a few pictures from the evening below!
We hope you have a wonderful weekend! Just a reminder that Monday is a late start day to allow for staff professional development. Doors will open at 9:15 a.m., and school will begin at 9:30 a.m. We look forward to seeing students then!

Parent-Teacher Conferences: Parent-Teacher Conferences are just around the corner and will take place on March 19th. Sign-up information should have been sent out on Wednesday and Thursday of this week via ParentSquare. These conferences will be student-led, and we encourage students to attend alongside you. We look forward to sharing the progress students have made so far and discussing our goals as we head toward the end of the school year. Please reach out to your child's teacher with you any questions you may have.
Session 2 of Afterschool Clubs: Session 2 of WOIS afterschool clubs will begin after spring break. Girls Who Code and Intramurals sign ups are now open. Students received paper copies of the sign up forms to take home last week. If your child wishes to participate in one of these afterschool clubs, please complete the sign-up form and have your child return it to the club sponsor listed on the form or their classroom teacher by Monday, March 2nd.
Lunch Pop-Up Shop: We are excited to announce that on Tuesday, March 3rd, West Oak Intermediate School will be hosting its first Pop-up Shop, hosted by our food service provider, Whitsons'. The theme of the first Pop-up Shop is "Mac Attack" where a Whitsons' chef will be preparing a made to order mac & cheese entree for students. The meal includes their choice of toppings including crispy chicken, bacon, pulled pork, vegetables, and much more. We are thrilled to be able to enhance our food service options for our WOIS students and are eagerly looking forward to their feedback.

5Essentials Survey: Each year parents, students, and teachers across Illinois will have an opportunity to participate in the annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey. This survey is designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of your child’s school. As a parent/guardian, this opportunity will allow you to share your thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness in a survey about your child’s school. Please take a few minutes to complete the Illinois 5Essentials Parent Survey. Your feedback is greatly important to us and your participation allows us to focus our continued improvement efforts. After completing the survey, if you'd like to be entered into a raffle for a free dinner for you and your family, complete this quick form!
We need 20% of our families to participate in this survey in order to receive the results.
Diamond Awards: New to this year, we ask families to complete this nomination Form if they would like to recognize a staff member they feel are going above and beyond with what they do in the classroom, school, or district. Please consider spreading the positivity by highlighting the great work that staff our doing in our district.
D76 CARES: At D76, the well-being of our students and families is our top priority. Understanding the critical role mental health plays in student success, we have launched D76 CARES - a comprehensive initiative aimed at improving access to quality mental health services across our community. D76 CARES stands for Community, Advocacy, Resilience, Engagement, and Support. Treatment services are initially provided free of charge to district families for up to 8 sessions. Click HERE for treatment request.
Students practiced their math skills AND dribbling skills this week playing Mathsketball during P.E.
We closed out D76 Loves to Read month with a spirit week!
Some 4th and 5th grade students had fun at lunch solving their rubik's cubes!
Growing Cooperation Skills: Cooperation helps children succeed both socially and academically. At home, give your child opportunities to work with others through chores, games, or planning a family activity. Practicing listening, taking turns, and compromising builds skills that support teamwork and positive relationships at school.
Your student's classroom teacher should be your first point of contact. For building-related information, please call the front office at 847-970-3544 or contact the following individuals via email:
