Dear West Oak Intermediate Families,
As we head into the final stretch before Thanksgiving break, I want to share how grateful we are for our wonderful school community. Our staff works hard every day to support students academically, socially, and emotionally, and we truly appreciate the trust and partnership of our families. Thank you for being such an important part of the Wolf Pack.
We also want to remind you of a few important schedule changes coming up. Monday will be an early release day to accommodate Parent-Teacher Conferences. Students at West Oak Intermediate will be dismissed at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday November 25th-Friday, November 28th are non-attendance days. In addition, Monday, December 1st will be a late start for staff professional development. Students may begin arriving at 9:15 a.m. on that day.
We hope you and your families enjoy a warm, restful, and fun Thanksgiving break together. We are grateful for you!
Natalie Kalette

Parent-Teacher Conferences: We are excited for you to join us on November 24th for Parent-Teacher Conferences! If you have any questions regarding your scheduled conference, please reach out to your child's teacher.
Scholastic Book Fair: Be sure to check out our Scholastic Book Fair on Monday, November 24th during Parent Teacher Conferences. West Oak Intermediate School (WOIS) will be hosting the fair on the West Oak Middle School (WOMS) side of the campus in Classroom A of the Innovation Center. We encourage all families to browse the great selection of both English and Spanish books provided along with writing journals and classroom favorites. Staff members at WOIS have also created wishlists and/or virtual wallets that families are welcome to contribute to. On behalf of the WOIS staff, we thank you for your generosity and kindness.
Music Boosters: If you are looking for something your child can do next week, please consider supporting our Music Boosters with their fundraiser at X Factor from 2:00-4:00pm on Tuesday, November 25th. This promises to be a lot of fun! The flyer is included below with specific information.
SEL Focus of the Month: December's SEL focus is EMPATHY! Students will be developing skills like perspective-taking, conflict resolution, and leadership through our Character Strong curriculum during morning meeting. Please see below for the monthly family newsletters:
Bus Bulletin via Lakeside Transportation: Please sign up for bus bulletin notifications from Lakeside Transportation. During the upcoming winter season, Lakeside Transportation will send messages through this service if your child's bus is running behind schedule. Click the link here to sign up!
Clubs and Activities: Clubs and activities are underway! Here is the after school clubs and activities schedule.
It's getting chilly!: As the temperatures start to drop, please ensure you are sending your student with warm winter-weather gear. We will continue to go outside for recess every day, except in the case of extreme cold or rain. If there is snow on the ground, students will need a hat (or hood), jacket, gloves, snow pants, and boots to play in the snow. If you are in need of these winter supplies, please reach out to Sami Calderon (scalderon@dist76.org) or the WOIS office for support.
Diamond Awards: New to this year, we ask families to complete this nomination Form if they would like to recognize a staff member they feel are going above and beyond with what they do in the classroom, school, or district. Please consider spreading the positivity by highlighting the great work that staff our doing in our district.
D76 CARES: At D76, the well-being of our students and families is our top priority. Understanding the critical role mental health plays in student success, we have launched D76 CARES - a comprehensive initiative aimed at improving access to quality mental health services across our community. D76 CARES stands for Community, Advocacy, Resilience, Engagement, and Support. Treatment services are initially provided free of charge to district families for up to 8 sessions. Click HERE for treatment request.
4th grade students practiced playing the ukulele during Music classes!
Ms. Ahrens' class geared up for Thanksgiving by writing five-paragraph persuasive essays on the best Thanksgiving food!
Ms. Clement worked in small groups with students to practice their writing skills!
Model Learning at Home: Children learn by watching the adults around them, and one of the most powerful messages you can send is that learning continues long after school ends! Let your child see you reading, asking questions, trying new things, or solving everyday problems. Share something interesting you learned or explore a new idea together—whether it’s a fun fact, a recipe, or a simple DIY project. When children see curiosity and learning modeled at home, they understand that growing, discovering, and wondering are lifelong habits worth embracing.
Your student's classroom teacher should be your first point of contact. For building-related information, please call the front office at 847-970-3544 or contact the following individuals via email:
