What a Wonderful Week at DLS!

It has been another great week at Diamond Lake School! Our students continue to impress us with their learning, kindness, and ability to show what it means to be a responsible member of our school community.

🚒 Safety First: A Successful Fire Drill

This week, we practiced our fire drill, and we could not be more proud of our students! Our students exited the building safely, calmly, and swiftly while following directions from their teachers and staff. Practicing these procedures helps ensure that everyone knows what to do in an emergency, and our students did an amazing job!

A big thank you to our staff for helping our students practice these important safety routines throughout the year.

🏗️ A BIG Day for Our Community!

This week was also a very special one as we celebrated the groundbreaking of the new D76 Community Center!

Our second graders had a special role in this exciting event as a group of students helped turn the first shovels of dirt and officially kick off construction. There were hard hats, big smiles, lots of cheering, and plenty of excitement!

This new Community Center represents so much more than a new building. It is an investment in our students, families, and community and will create new opportunities for people to learn, gather, connect, and grow together. We are so excited to watch this vision come to life!

It was truly a PEAK moment for Diamond Lake School and our entire D76 community!

📚 Keep Reading at Home!

As we head into a long weekend, don't forget to make time for reading together at home! Whether your child reads to you, you read to your child, or you take turns reading together, those moments make a difference.

Research shows that reading with children regularly helps build vocabulary, strengthen comprehension, develop background knowledge, and support overall academic success. Even just 15 minutes of reading together each day can add up to meaningful learning over time.

So grab a favorite book, get cozy, and enjoy some reading time together this weekend! ❤️

🚗 Morning Drop-Off Reminders

To help make morning drop-off safe, smooth, and efficient for everyone, please follow these important procedures. When you enter the parking lot, drive all the way forward into the circle and wait for a staff member to come to your vehicle and assist your child. Please do not allow your child to exit the vehicle unless a staff member is present and opens the car door. For the safety of all students, adults should remain in their vehicles throughout the entire drop-off line. If you need to get out of your vehicle for any reason, please park and walk your child to the front door. Our drop-off system works best when every vehicle moves as far forward as possible each time students are unloaded. Thank you for helping us keep our morning arrival safe, organized, and moving!

📅 Looking Ahead

A reminder that there is no school on Monday or Friday next week. We hope our families enjoy the extra time together and come back ready for another great week of learning!

Health Physical and Immunization Requirements – Exclusion Date October 15, 2026

As a reminder, all students entering Preschool, Kindergarten, 6th grade, and any student new to Illinois schools are required by Illinois School Code (105 ILCS 5/27-8.1) to have a current physical examination (must be completed within one year prior to the first day of school) and up-to-date immunization records on file.

• Deadline: October 15, 2026

Important: Students who do not submit a completed physical and proof of required immunizations by this date will be excluded from school. They will not be allowed to attend classes or participate in school activities until the required forms are received.

Please schedule any needed appointments as soon as possible and submit forms to the school office. If your child has an upcoming appointment, please provide written confirmation from your healthcare provider to the school nurse prior to October 15.

 If you have questions or need assistance accessing health services, please contact the school nurse or main office.

September Dine-Out

Join us at Taco and Burrito Express on September 15th for lunch or dinner! They are located at 400 E. Hawley St., Mundelein, IL 60060. Be sure to mention Diamond Lake School District, and 15% of the proceeds will be generously donated to the D76 PTO.

Back to School Bash

The Back to School Bash will be held on Friday, September 25th, from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM. Weather permitting, this event will take place outdoors. Tickets are $5 per person or $20 for a family of 4 or more, and they may be purchased in advance or at the door.

Pre-registering helps us plan a wonderful event and earns you a complimentary raffle ticket! Pre-registration is open now through September 16th. Please return your completed pre-registration form to the office, or enter all of your information in the memo section when making your Zelle payment. Be sure to visit our website for the most up-to-date event details.

Volunteers Needed

This fun tradition is only possible with the support of our dedicated volunteers! As a thank-you, all Back to School Bash volunteers receive free admission. Please sign up for a shift on our SignUpGenius page. If you are unable to work a shift but would still love to support the event, please email us at dist76pto@gmail.com.

Tables Needed!

Do you have folding tables we could borrow? We are always looking for extra tables for the Back to School Bash. Please label your tables with your name and drop them off at the West Oak Campus (Door #8) between September 22nd and September 25th. You can pick them up right after the event ends or during the following week. If you have any questions, feel free to email dist76pto@gmail.com.

D76 CARES: At D76, the well-being of our students and families is our top priority. Understanding the critical role mental health plays in student success, we have launched D76 CARES - a comprehensive initiative aimed at improving access to quality mental health services across our community. D76 CARES stands for Community, Advocacy, Resilience, Engagement, and Support. Treatment services are initially provided free of charge to district families for up to 8 sessions.
