This Week's Highlights
We beat the heat this week. Students were great on Monday and Tuesday of this week for our first indoor recess of the 2024 school year.
West Oak Intermediate conducted our annual bus evacuation drill this past week to ensure our students and staff are prepared for emergency situations. The drill went smoothly, and everyone participated safely and efficiently.
Thank you for joining us at Curriculum Night! We always appreciate your partnership through attendance of our events. We hope you learned something meaningful, and gained some insights into what our amazing teachers do daily.
Need to Know
Have a great Labor Day: As a reminder we DO NOT have school Monday, September 2nd for Labor Day.
STAR Assessments: The STAR testing window will be opening on Tuesday, September 3, 2024. Students will be taking the math test on September 3rd and the reading test on September 4th. We will be running a late start schedule so that all students will be able to focus while the whole school takes the STAR test at the same time. We will have make up tests the week of September 9th.
Health Requirements and Information: All forms can be found HERE. These requirements MUST be completed by October 15th of the school year OR within 30 days of registering student for school. Please turn-in your medical forms to Julie Marchese, our school nurse, as soon as possible. Her email is jmarchese@dist76.org.
5th Grade Families: Band and choir will be starting in mid September. Instruments are scheduled to be delivered on September 12. From there, students will learn about how to handle and care for their instruments, as well as receive a lesson schedule.
Calendar Correction: It has come to our attention that an incorrect version of the 2024-25 school calendar was shared with some families last spring. We want to correct this error by confirming that the late start date for November 2024 is November 4th, not November 1st.
We apologize for any confusion this may have caused. Please refer to the district calendar on our website for the latest updates and accurate details. Thank you for your understanding.
Engagement and Growth
This year D76 is enhancing community engagement events for all students, PreK-8, as a time to come together and explore different learning opportunities, participate in a variety of activities, and engage as a district community. Our first in-district event will be held on Thursday, September 26th from 5:00-7:00 pm at DLS.
This September we will be recognizing International Day of Peace and celebrating with learning experiences related to the exploration of our role as peacemakers and peace leaders within our schools and in our community, developing a commitment made by participants to bring peace, kindness, and problem solving to our schools, and celebrating generosity and understanding. We look forward to seeing you there!
On Saturday, September 28th, from 9:00 am-12:00 pm, the Mundelein Farmers Market will be wrapping up their season. D76 has been invited to have our own Saturday and close the market season with a little extra sparkle. We will have a story corner, face painting, arts and crafts, and photo opts with Sparkles and Polly. It will be a great fall morning for us to come together with the Mundelein community.
