Theatreworks USA, "The Teacher From the Black Lagoon and Other Story Books"

On April 4th, Mrs Hovey's third grade class took a trip to Dominican University in River Forest to see the TheatreworksUSA production of "The Teacher from the Black Lagoon and Other Story Books." Photos were not allowed on this trip but please read below why the students enjoyed the production.

I enjoyed the epic show "Dogzilla" by Dav Pilkey. I enjoyed Dogzilla because it was a hilarious show. Dogzilla was defeated by the mice. They poured water on him and Dogzilla ran away. Dogzilla was a very funny character. He was a black, huge and dangerous dog. -D.G.

I enjoyed the play "Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse" by Kevin Henkes. I enjoyed it because the singing made me think of my life. It reminds me of some of the crazy times that happen in my house. The actors did not make any mistakes. The teacher from the play was so nice to Lilly. He did not get mad at Lilly when she shouted out in class. -E.E.K.

I enjoyed "Love, Splat" by Rob Scotten. I enjoyed it because it was a cute play. It was cute because of the way Kitten liked to tickle Splat. I also enjoyed "I Want My Hat Back" by Jon Klassen. I enjoyed "I Want My Hat Back" because it was funny. It was funny because all of the animals didn't know where Bear's hat was, then Rabbit was found wearing the hat. Rabbit did not realize it was Bear's hat. -S.R.D.

I enjoyed "Dogzilla" by Dav Pilkey because Dogzilla came out from a burning volcano while the mice were having a cook-off. It was funny when they gave Dogzilla a bath. It was cool when the planes came in and attacked Dogzilla. It was funny when Dogzilla ran away. -A.C.P.

I enjoyed "Love, Splat" by Rob Scotten, "Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse" by Kevin Henkes, and "I Want My Hat Back" by Jon Klassen. I enjoyed "Love, Splat" because it was funny and Spike and Splat had a competition over winning Kitten's love. I enjoyed "Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse" because it was crazy when Lilly jumped out of her chair and started to talk about her purple plastic purse and got a five minute time out. Last, I enjoyed "I Want My Hat Back" because of Bear's anger when he lost his hat. -S.B.M.

I enjoyed "Dogzilla" by Dav Pilkey, "Love, Splat" by Rob Scotten and "The teacher From the Black Lagoon" by Mike Thaler. Dogzilla had a lot of details and effects that made it realistic. The character Dogzilla was very huge and black. "Love, Splat" was funny because the character Spike was very funny especially with his glasses on. In "The Teacher From The Black Lagoon," I liked the part when the teacher was teaching fractions and showed 1/2 by eating half of a student. It was weird that the student's body was only half there. I also like when the teacher flamed the boy. The auditorium at Dominican University was also enormous. -E.L.R.

I enjoyed "Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse" by Kevin Henkes. I enjoyed "Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse" because Lilly's purse was purple and purple is one of my favorite colors. I enjoyed "Love, Splat" by Rob Scotten because one of the actors did a "Dab" and it was really funny. I enjoyed "I Want My Hat Back" by Jon Klassen because the character who lost his hat asked everybody if they saw his hat. He asked Rabbit and didn't realize that Rabbit had his hat on his head. Finally he got it back in the end. -A.M.O

I enjoyed "I Want My Hat back" by Jon Klassen because one actor was a rabbit and the rabbit said he does not know anything about Bear's hat. As Bear asked Rabbit if he saw his hat, Rabbit was wearing Bear's hat. I Enjoyed "Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse" by Kevin Henkes because the actors were dancing amazingly. I also loved the awesome actors because they were loud and really expressed their feelings. It was funny when Lilly popped out of her chair and started to chit chat about her purple plastic purse. -L.M.B.

I enjoyed the "The Teacher from The Black Lagoon" by Mike Thaler because it was more exciting than the book. I also enjoyed "Love, Splat" by Rob Scotten because it was a really funny, good and caring series of books. I finally enjoyed "Grumpy Bird" by Jeremy Tankars because it was a funny book about not being a grumpy bird. -L.G.W.

I enjoyed "Dogzilla" by Dav Pilkey because there was a lot of action on stage. There were funny costumes that were very creative and funny because of the sticks attached to the outfit. The sticks represented Dogzilla's paws. I also loved "I Want My Hat back" by Jon Klassen because of the hats, music and all of the bookshelves circling Bear and Rabbit while Bear was eating Rabbit to get his hat back. I enjoyed the play "Dogzilla" by Dav Pilkey because it was funny how the mice put up a fight against Dogzilla. The mice started a BBQ and Dogzilla smelled it. The mice fought against Dogzilla and almost lost. To win they gave Dogzilla a bath. -K.A.C.

I enjoyed "Dogzilla" by Dav Pilkey because it was a very funny play and the costumes looked just like the costumes from the book. I also liked the end when it was pouring dogs. I enjoyed "The Teacher From The Black Lagoon" by Mike Thaler because Mrs. Green ate a student to show the class the fraction 1/2. Mrs. Green also danced and that was funny. I liked "Love, Splat" by Rob Scotten because Kitten was confused and that was funny. -J.T.S.

I enjoyed "I Want My Hat Back" by Jon Klassen because when Bear asked Rabbit if he saw or heard anything about his hat, Rabbit said "No" but he was wearing Bear's hat the whole time. -A.J.

I enjoyed "Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse" by Kevin Henkes because Lilly jumped out of her chair and started to talk about her purse. The teacher put Lilly in a time out for five minutes. -C.M.C.
