3. Digital age learning environments

"Technology coaches create and support effective digital age learning environments to maximize the learning of all students."

Introduction to ISTE-CS

Digital age learning environments can take many forms. They can be synchronous (when people are participating in real-time) or asynchronous (when people are participating at different times). They can be online classes, or blended classes with in-person and online components. Or they can be standard, in-person classes, which make use of technology to support student learning. But when creating digital age learning environments, it’s critical to remember what I think of as the golden rule of technology-enhanced education: technology second. What I mean by that is: good teaching comes first, and technology which enhances a learning goal is the second layer of a good lesson plan. This philosophy comes from Les Foltos' (2013) book Peer Coaching: Unlocking the Power of Collaboration.
