The first part of the lecture closed the topic of advanced operations management introduced in the previous lecuture:
An application of MPC to the optimal control of inventory in hospitals was presented. The mathematical formulation was explained. Link to paper: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0967066117302459.
The second part of the lecture was dedicated to introducing the problem of plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) control in a smart grid:
The use case was presented, together with the reference architecture, presenting the main systems and actors involved. See paper https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0967066113001871, sections 1 to 4;
The mathematical formulation was briefly introduced, focusing on the definition of the objective function, and some notable constraints. See section 5 in the above paper. See equations (9) and (12) in paper https://www.mdpi.com/1996-1073/11/1/48 on how to model semi-continuous variables.
