The following are the acronyms used in the course Soil and Agricultural Microbiology which you need to be familiar from the examination point of view


VAM or AM – Vesicular Arbuscular Mycorrhiza or Arbuscular mycorrhiza

Nif gene – genes in N fixing bacteria related to nitrogen fixation

Nod gene – genes in N fixing bacteria related to nodulation in plants

Cry gene – genes related to crystal protein formation in Bt (Bacillus thuringiensis)

PGPR – Plant growth promoting rhizobacteria

PGP - Plant growth promotion

R: S ratio – Microbial population in rhizosphere to non rhizosphere soil

YEMA – Yeast Extract Mannitol Agar

Hup+  Strain positive for Uptake Hydrogenase enzyme system 

MPN – Most Probable Number

C: N ratio – Carbon to Nitrogen ratio required to be maintained for proper decomposition of organic matter 

LCO - Lipo chito oligosaccharides

SOM - Soil organic matter
