At DHSB we know that preparing for exams can feel just as challenging for parents as it does for students. Many parents want to help but aren’t always sure of the best ways to support revision at home. This page is designed to give you practical ideas, simple strategies, and useful advice to make the revision process less stressful and more effective.
Whether it’s creating the right study environment, keeping your child motivated, or helping them balance work and rest, our tips will guide you in supporting their learning journey. Small changes at home can make a big difference to your child’s confidence and performance in exams.
Recognise effort as well as achievement. Small rewards, positive feedback, or simply showing interest can help motivation.
Balanced meals, regular water, and healthy snacks fuel the brain. A good breakfast before school or exams is especially important.
Regular exercise — even a short walk — boosts energy, relieves stress, and improves concentration.
A quiet, organised area free from distractions helps concentration. If this isn’t possible at home, make use of our school or public study spaces.
Remind your child that exams are important, but not the only measure of success. Keep perspective and help reduce pressure where possible.
Short, focused bursts (around 30-45 minutes) with breaks are better than long cramming sessions. Help your child use or create a revision timetable to stay on track.
Techniques like flashcards, self-testing, and mind maps are far more effective than simply reading notes. Ask your child to show you what they’ve created.
Phones, gaming, and social media should be kept aside during revision time. Encourage your child to see these as rewards after study sessions.
Aim for 8–9 hours per night. Good sleep improves focus, memory, and resilience during exam season.
Encourage your child to follow a regular daily schedule. Consistency helps reduce stress and makes revision feel manageable.
