As the oldest of nearly 40 grandchildren, I have always been surrounded by kids and have enjoyed taking the leadership role. This is what lead me into the education field while at DePaul University. I graduated in 2006 with a Bachelors in Elementary Education and began my career as a middle school science teacher. I loved working with students everyday and enjoyed seeing "the light go off" as they began to figure things out with my guidance. After leaving teaching to begin a family, I quickly realized I was ready to get back to work. Unsure if teaching was where I wanted to return, I decided to give nursing a try. In 2014 I graduated with a Masters in Nursing from Rush University. Quickly realizing that I missed the school setting, I left hospital life to get back to the kids I missed working with everyday. I joined District 58 in 2016 and have found a home here!
As the school nurse for both Pierce Downer Elementary and Herrick Middle School, I strive to provide competent and evidenced-based healthcare to anyone entering these facilities. A core principle I carry is that all individuals need to take an independent role in their own health. Whether you have a peanut allergy or have been diagnosed with diabetes, students need to understand how to effectively manage these conditions in the real world. My role is to educate students on how handle real life situations and guide them on how to make smart healthy choices each day.
