Meet Ms. Ekman

MSW, LCSW, M.S. Ed.

Ms. Ekman is the social worker for both 7th and 8th grade students at Herrick. She has been doing social work for 21 years. She began her career as a family therapist and has worked the last 17 years as a school social worker. She has worked with age groups ranging from preschool to middle school. She has a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education and Masters degrees in both Social Work and School Leadership. She is an LCSW with a current license in the state of Illinois. She is the sponsor for Board Game Club, Hula Hoop Club, Snowflake, and the Recycling Club. She also runs an animal assisted canine therapy group at Herrick for a select number of students.

Her practice philosophy includes the belief that all children want to do well and are capable of growth and change. Her practice model uses a combination of strength based, solution focused, and cognitive behavior training.
