Comments from participants:

A student at UP Comillas in the 3rd year of International Relations and Global Communication tells us about...

"A normal day in Bantabá consisted of different tasks distributed throughout the day: the first shift of classes began at 10 am and ended at 11:30 am, then we used until 1 pm to prepare the other two classes in the afternoon (from 7 pm to 8:40 pm and from 8:50 pm to 10 pm). The Bantabá experience is not only limited to the classes, the project was also largely focused on the knowledge of the cultural environment (activities in the greenhouses, snacks with local women, informal conversations in the center). This project has made me realize that there are many other realities parallel to my world. I left Bantabá with a heart full of joy, satisfaction and admiration for all the people who are part of this project".

Project and activity identification:

Since their arrival in Las Norias de Daza, in the province of Almeria, the Religious of the Sacred Heart have been trying to respond to the needs of migrants, formerly from other areas of Spain, and today to those who come from the other side of the strait and who continue to arrive today. These are migrants settled in the Norias de Daza, a rural population belonging to the municipality of El Ejido, mostly from the Maghreb, Sub-Saharan Africa and countries of Eastern Europe outside the EU. This project is currently being carried out in two population centers: Las Norias de Daza and Santa María del Águila, 5 km from each other.

The aim of the Bantabá Socio-educational Project is the integration of migrants who come to the area in search of work, trying to enable them to live with dignity in a society that is very hostile to them. During 15 days, we propose you to collaborate in the task that is carried out by giving Spanish classes to migrants in the area.

It is a possibility to live an approach to the reality of immigration in El Ejido (Almeria) and at the same time a shared experience in community.
