Comments from participants:

A 4th year student of the International Relations and Global Communication Degree at the Universidad Pontificia Comillas tells us...

"The Red Cross has a wide range of activities and I was fortunate to be able to participate in several of them. The main activity in which I participated was a summer camp in which various excursions and activities were prepared for children from 2 to 16 years of age, mostly immigrants, in order to help families reconcile work and family life. On the other hand, I was in the Hospital Childhood program, an activity that tried to accompany and play with children hospitalized in the Virgen del Rocío Children's Hospital. It was a space where children could have fun and families could rest or run errands if necessary. Finally, I carried out occasional activities such as picking up and taking people at risk, especially women and threatened or abused children.

This experience has been deeply enriching and has left an indelible mark on my heart and mind. Throughout my service, I have learned valuable lessons that transcend far beyond the borders of the camp and have shaped my perspective on life and humanity Furthermore, volunteering has shown me the importance of resilience. The children I worked with have overcome incredible challenges to arrive in a new country in search of a better future. Their ability to adapt to the new reality while maintaining a positive attitude, knowing that they have left behind part of their family, friends and everything they had, has inspired me to be stronger in my own personal struggles and to appreciate more what I have."

Project and activity identification:

The Red Cross serves different vulnerable groups of the Sevillian society through a framework of attention to the person with a comprehensive vision, supporting people in each of their vital phases.

For the Vuela Program 2024, we propose the participation of the volunteers in the Senior Citizen program, where we assist people in the aging process so that their vital transition is healthy on the physical, social and emotional level; and in the Summer School Camp, which offers a leisure alternative to children and young people at risk of social exclusion.

What are we going to do?

In the Summer School Cmap the volunteers will support and work with minors from families at risk of social exclusion to whom we try to offer a safe and healthy alternative space for leisure and to facilitate family reconciliation. They will also support other activities likely to take place during the month of July, specifically in accompanying the elderly or hospitalized children.

For Cruz Roja, the participation of students from other territories provides, in addition to the most needed extra support dirung the summer period, an opportunity to continue improving the intervention with a more diverse approach. We hope that the volunteers participation would be mutually benefitial as they would widen their knowledge about different realities.

Schedule: Monday to Friday from 09.00 to 14.00h. Possibility to participate in afternoon activities if needed by the Red Cross.
