Comments from participants:

A 3rd year student of ADE + Law at the Universidad Pontificia Comillas tells us about her experience, which in her case was urban, and which was...

"I usually arrived at the parish around 8:30 and received the children until 9:00. When there were no excursions, from 9:00 to 10:00 we would try to entertain the children, either with a game (like Mikado or Virus) or coloring. At 10:00 we started with the workshops, which were connected to the theme of the week (such as art, creativity or science). At the end of the workshop, we distributed the snack to the children (which consisted of a bun and juice) and let them play in the park for an hour. After that, we would do the second workshop (also connected to the theme of the week). At the end of the second workshop, we would move on to lunch and finish the camp with activities or games until 15:30-16:00, when the parents would pick up their children from the parish."

Identification of the project and activity:

Rural camp in the Sierra Norte de Madrid, with overnight stay and lasting between 7 and 10 days (exact duration and specific dates to be determined by Cáritas Madrid before March 2024). Participants in the project will be children between 8 and 16 years old from vulnerable families served by Cáritas Madrid.

The experience includes sharing a common space with other young people of different studies, ages and backgrounds (not only those convened by VUELA), where through spaces of encounter, coexistence and negotiation the experience is shared and the service performed and the lessons learned are reflected upon. The project includes a community and convivial element beyond the activity itself.

Description of beneficiaries:

Children from families at risk of exclusion, users of Cáritas Madrid intervention services.

Previous training:

All students selected for the VUELA program will receive common training for participation in volunteer activities.

Consult YOUR UNIVERSITY in the following links for training dates, location and conditions.  Don't forget to mark them in your calendar. This training is mandatory and is part of the project.

The organization provides room and board for the entire group of volunteers (those in the program and other participants) for the duration of the experience. Cáritas Madrid will determine the specific location prior to the start of the project.
