Project and activity identification:

The Cooperativa Cafetalera Ecológica La Labor Ocotepeque Limitada (COCAFELOL) is an organisation of coffee producers located in the Department of Ocotepeque, bordering El Salvador and Guatemala. 

The cooperative currently has 605 members, of which 77% are men and 23% women. Of these, 93% are smallholder farmers.

 

Mission and services: 

Its mission is to ensure sustainable social human development and poverty reduction for its members and their communities, through the economic and social development of coffee producers and their families, and it puts this into practice by supporting affiliates in: 

Production: it has a Certification and Technical Assistance department to provide advice to all its affiliates.

Certification seals that the Cooperative has: Fair Trade, Organic, RF, JAS. 

Marketing strategy: purchase and sale of coffee at competitive prices.

Expedited credit at low or zero interest rates. 

Export services.

Awards to producers throughout the year.

Development of social and productive projects that provide additional support to the families and communities where producers live in the areas of health, education, food security, sports, youth entrepreneurship and environmental protection. 


What will we do?

Volunteers will support workers in the marketing department to improve the promotion and visibility of the activities that COCAFELOL carries out to make itself known to potential costumers: marketing, social networks, news and press releases, etc.  At the same time, there will be an impact on the exchange and transmission of knowledge to the local team in related skills: management of social networks, video production, photo editing and design. 


Schedule:

Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 17:00 hours and Saturday from 08:00 to 12:00 hours.

Previous training:

All students selected for the VUELA program will receive common training for participation in volunteer activities.

El acompañamiento en terreno lo realizará la propia organización durante todo el proyecto.

Lodging and meals:

Lodging will be in a neighbor's house with kitchen or in rented houses.

Transport:

The student is responsible for arranging and paying for transportation to the intervention site, and must inform the project's reference university of the date and time of arrival at least 15 days in advance.
