Project and activity identification:

ADOPCAM is a non-profit association governed by the Legislation of the Social Sector of the Economy of Honduras and constituted in 2006 with the objective of overseeing the administration of the Denomination of Origin (DO) Café Marcala in Honduras.

The municipality of Marcala, surrounded by coffee plantations, has a population of approximately 33,000 inhabitants, with all the basic services and internet access. Part of the activities will be carried out in neighbouring rural areas where there is no internet access. Volunteers will be accompanied by a technician on these trips and should come prepared to visit mountainous sites (clothing for both cold and heat). The average temperature is 18-21 degrees Celsius, but in rural areas it can drop to 6 degrees Celsius.

Mission:

The DO Café Marcala seeks to defend, commercialise, control, regulate and differentiate the name of Café de Marcala in the protected region of the Montecillos mountain range, always environmentally and socially committed to achieve a better positioning and better benefits for the producers of the region.

What will we do?

One of the volunteers will be in charge of supporting the implementation of the internal and external communication plan of the DO Marcala coffee, promoting the certification of quality of the coffee, the potential as a DO, and supporting producers to better promote their coffee. In a complementary way, the volunteer will support the promotion of activities with young people and women in relation to the Municipal Offices for Women and Youth, and the Art and Culture Association of Marcala.

The other volunteer person will collaborate in social intervention work related to the psychological care of young people with depression and self-esteem problems and women who have suffered violence.

Timetable:

Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. If there are events such as festivals or trainings, the student's support may be required to promote the events outside these hours.
