Comments from participants:

A 1st year student of International Relations and Global Communication tells us about...

"The experience has been incredibly enriching in every way: academic, personal, cultural, linguistic, psychological, social and even political. I really feel that I have learned a thousand times more than they have learned from me, which I value as something incredibly positive. The truth is that I wanted to help, and I feel that the experience has ended up helping me. Deep down I'm sure that's the real purpose of volunteering: to exchange perspectives and experiences, words and actions that you couldn't afford even if you wanted to. To other students I can only encourage them to open their minds and be prepared to feel that by changing their environment they change themselves. The biggest smile comes when you mirror that of your fellow man."

Identification of the project and the activity:

Voluntary Center, n.o. is an organization that was originally established as a civic association at the beginning of 2000. Its creation was mainly conditioned by the situation in the city of Banská Bystrica, where there was a growing need to connect people who wanted and want to work as volunteers and the organizations that needed and need them. Another impetus for the creation of the Volunteer Center was the effort to awaken enthusiasm and love for volunteer work, especially among young people, and to bring it closer to all inhabitants of the city. Throughout its years of existence, the Center has maintained its stable position in the field of non-governmental organizations and has long since ceased to operate exclusively in Banská Bystrica, but has expanded and continues to expand its activities to the entire Banská Bystrica region and beyond. This profile also contributed to the transformation of the association into a non-profit organization with the same name, mission and objectives.

We advise on working with volunteers in organizations and thus increase the quality of their management; within the framework of long-term volunteer programs, we cooperate with institutions in need of a specific volunteer program. The target groups are mostly children from disadvantaged backgrounds, children with special needs and senior citizens.

We provide some long-term volunteer programs and one of them is "SPOJIVKO" (The LINK), which helps children from difficult socio-economic situations through contact with volunteers to thrive in school and to create healthy bonds and friendships with others from different situations.

What are we going to do?

During these two weeks, the students will help organize the final party for the children as part of a long-term volunteer program ("SPOJIVKO"). And during the first week of July, they will prepare a program for a day camp for the children of the volunteer program and help in its realization.

Schedule: 6 hours/day, 2 days off, 14 days.

Other information:

The students will have facilities in the coworking building at Lazovná 5, where the organization also has an office. The volunteer activity will take place here and then within the program and facilities with regard to the organization of a day camp for disadvantaged children.
