Comments from participants:

A student of the double degree in International Relations and Communication at Loyola University tells us about...

"It has been a frenetic and at the same time a peaceful experience, where work, dedication and sacrifice, have managed to tan our skills of service to others. Working as a volunteer at the colletero has been an exciting experience, full of friends, moments and knowledge that I will cherish for the rest of my life. My fellow volunteers and I have done everything. From harvesting potatoes, to planting leeks, organizing baskets and sanitizing vegetables, hiking, swimming pool, participating in parties.... I leave with a wonderful taste in my mouth, and I feel very grateful to all the nice people of this wonderful Riojan village who have welcomed us with open arms from day one".

Project and activity identification:

The volunteer project in Nalda aims to link the urban-university and rural worlds in order to empower urban and rural youth through coexistence and teamwork in everything that has to do with enhancing the cultural, environmental and social heritage of Nalda.

Our mission is to achieve a sustainable and equitable development of the town of Nalda, through self-management, participation, training, employment, dynamization and support for small enterprises, taking into account all the people who live in our town. We want to embrace the urban world and establish links through our projects, also establish synergies that make us grow together.

What are we going to do?

Food is one of the thematic cores with multiple relationships in the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Many of the SDG targets are directly related to the promotion of sustainable food systems. The aim is to bring young university students closer to a Caring Community, so that they learn about cooperation, solidarity economy... to be active agents of development, promoting the agri-food transition towards sustainability, all through participation in the various activities of the association.

The main activity of the volunteer will focus on working in the Huertas de Iregua, with other young people from the village. They will also be able to collaborate in Verane@rt, a training, employment and integration program specifically for rural youth.

In addition, they will be able to participate in leisure, cultural and festive activities that are scheduled during their stay. You will also be able to learn about the other projects that the Association has underway (tourism, land reclamation, consumer club, etc.).

Schedule: Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm. This project includes some tasks with a timetable, such as work in the vegetable gardens, which will take place very early in the mornings from Monday to Friday. Others that, once there, will be known (leisure activities, culture, events, knowledge, cooperative work, etc.).
