EMERGING DESTINATIONS DE UNA
Caribbean region
Emerging destinations are the places we like the most here at DE UNA, because they are not as well known and offer the most authentic experience. As we like to offer trips around Colombia giving the most local experience possible. That is why we look for new destinations that are less touristy and offer incredible experiences.
Sanguaré Natural Reserve
Experience the beauty of the Sanguaré Nature Reserve, a hidden gem located south of Cartagena. This peaceful retreat provides disconnection and seclusion in a stunning natural setting. The reserve has a wide range of activities to satisfy nature enthusiasts and adventurers alike.
Hike through the jungle to see the amazing flora and fauna that call this place home. Stroll along pristine beaches that invite you to relax. For those who wish to explore beneath the waves, snorkeling and scuba diving adventures await, revealing a vibrant underwater world teeming with marine life. Sanguaré is not only dedicated to showcasing the wonders of nature, but also actively participates in its conservation. Join their coral gardening initiatives, contributing to the restoration of bleached corals, and help protect these vital ecosystems. As the sun sets, immerse yourself in the enchanting spectacle of bioluminescence, where water illuminated by bioluminescent bacteria comes alive with a mesmerizing glow.
In short, Natural Reserva Sanguaré is a destination that celebrates the natural world in all its splendor. It offers the perfect blend of relaxation and exciting outdoor activities, making it a nature lover's paradise and an authentic ecotourism experience.
The Guajira
La Guajira has the northernmost part of the Caribbean and is home to the Wayuu indigenous group. They are the largest indigenous group in Colombia and their language is the second most spoken in the country after Spanish. The Wayuu live in ranches that you can visit. They are also famous for their colorful mochilas (a hand woven bag made by this indigenous group). La Guajira is a huge area of sand dunes next to the Caribbean Sea, which offers spectacular views.
Sierra Nevada - Satey
In the Caribbean region is located the highest peak of Colombia in the Sierra Nevada. Visiting this destination is very special and very few operators offer to go there.
DE UNA specializes in providing exclusive tours to the local communities in the mountains, among others to the community of Satey. Trips to this community are led by guides who were born and raised in these mountains and have the best knowledge to create a unique experience. Getting to the mountains is not always easy, but the views are worth it! Here you can hike through incredible landscapes and interact with the local communities.
El Dorado
El Dorado is a nature reserve and hotel run by the Proaves foundation, they manage multiple conservation projects throughout Colombia and El Dorado is the most noticeable of them that you can visit. This is really a unique destination due to multiple factors, first of all you have amazing views from the accommodation, you can see the Caribbean sea and at the same time the Sierra Nevada mountains with snow on them. and secondly this destination is perfect for all bird fanatics as the reserve is home to more than 400 birds and more than 20 of them endemic to the area. El Dorado is very secluded even from Santa Marta. To get to the lodge you have to travel the last part in a 4x4 truck. For this reason and its beauty we recommend staying a few nights.
Nueva Venecia & Mompox
Mompox and Nueva Venecia are two destinations we offer as stops when driving from Santa Marta to Cartagena. As the drive is long, we like to suggest a short break in between. Nueva Venecia is a village that rises completely on the water, all the houses are built on wooden poles and you always have to move inside the village by boat, by visiting it you can learn about its life and recent history.
Mompox is a charming destination that detours a bit more, but is worth the extra distance. This town has a charming air and is infused with rich Spanish colonial history. Its remarkably well-preserved colonial architecture will transport you back in time.
Mompox holds the unique distinction of being the first town in the old Colombia to declare its independence from Spanish colonial rule. Its inhabitants, warm and welcoming, are happy to share their heritage with visitors. As the town is a bit remote, we recommend spending the night there.
Providencia
Providencia is a small island north of the Colombian Caribbean coast. This island offers an authentic and unspoiled experience that few have had the privilege of discovering. With its pristine beaches and crystal clear waters, Providencia is a paradise for travelers seeking tranquility, natural beauty and underwater adventures.
Discover the secrets of Providencia's vibrant coral reefs, a premier diving destination. Explore a world beneath the waves bursting with life and vibrant coral gardens, a true underwater wonderland awaiting your discovery.
Experience Providencia, where you can escape the crowds, enjoy the natural beauty of the Caribbean and savor life's simple pleasures. It's a place to relax, rejuvenate and enjoy the unspoiled charm of the Colombian Caribbean".
