At DE UNA we actively support several organizations and also launch our own initiatives aimed at improving local communities in Colombia. In the Andina region we support the foundation Children of Medellin.
Children of Medellin / Fundación Caminos
Children of Medellin is a foundation that DE UNA has supported from day one. The foundation was created by a Dutchman named Eddy Veldhuizen, who came to Colombia to volunteer in Medellín with street children for a few months. During that time, he found himself playing a lot of football with large groups of children from the entire neighborhood.
The neighborhood where the foundation started has mostly immigrant inhabitants who are struggling financially. The children often drop out of school to work so they can bring more income to their families. That's what Eddy wanted to avoid, so he promised the children that he would stay to continue playing soccer as long as they continued to attend all their classes and get their high school diploma. Since the kids have more job opportunities with a high school diploma that way they are able to support their families better.
Today the foundation has grown and offers more activities besides football, such as writing, coding, dance, music and more. And they still have the main rule that if the children want to attend, they have to go to school.
We are very proud of the foundation and all it has done for the children. That's why we have generously helped the foundation throughout the year with different donations that they needed to improve the program where needed.
