Off-Site Events

Milan: A City of Design

You can find this map, descriptions of events, and perhaps most importantly, entry access information for each off-site event listed on the Fuori Salone site.

Bring lots of business cards, or have a digital business card ready to go on your phone, as some locations will accept your Salone pass, but others will require  their own registration process/scan. For those who do require advance registration, make sure to download your registration codes/badges to either your photos folder or your wallet on your phone. (Or print and carry hard copies!)

If you don’t have a digital business card, try these two options: HiHello or the more stripped down, QRCreator.

Tracking Events

One of the best ways to track what’s “hot” at the very, very many off-site events is to check Instagram (or Facebook).

See what loads when searching #MilanDesignWeek, #MilanoDesignWeek, #MilanDesignWeek2024, #MDW, #MDW2024, #MDW24, or check out the following Instagram accounts:

Highlights of what’s happening across the city, plus they previously produced ddn HUB, a mini show at Castello Sforzesco.

DesignBoom’s current listing of events is already chock-full, and they include not only the main shows, but also interesting showroom, museum, and gallery installations timed to coincide with MDW.

Wallpaper’s coverage is a more broad strokes than super-detailed, but it does provide a good, quick overview. No word yet on if they’re producing an off-site event of their own.

This is actually a tourist site, but it’s has a nice section of “alternative” design destinations if you’re looking for something a little different. Including the private “home” museums of some of the city’s famed architects.

Dezeen

The Dezeen event guide is usually very thorough and they often distribute hard copies throughout the city. It’s not currently populated on the website yet though.

Robert’s Picks

As mentioned above, Robert also highly recommends the Wallpaper group show, if it’s scheduled! And here are a few more his selections…

At Salone: Hall 09, Stand F09 - G10
In Milan: via Cavallotti, 16

via Fiori Chiara, 18

At past MDWs, the Dimore Studio presentations have been amazing.  To date, there is nothing listed for this year, but we’ll keep an eye out!

via Statuto 12

The Shapes of Matter exhibition. Registration required, click link above.

Palazzo dei Giureconsulti, Piazza dei Mercanti 2.

A beautiful historic building plus exceptional views over the Duomo from the rooftop terrace.

Viale Lancetti, 34 | Via della Spiga, 32

Time Traveller: an exposition exploring the complex story of design and its evolution over the years.

Via Alessandro Manzoni 38

Registration required, click link above.

Susan’s Picks

My selections definitely overlap with the above. And I’d also include the following:

Residenza Vignale, via Enrico Toti, 2

Always a highlight, this is a mini-showcase house with six design studios creating rooms from Artemest’s collection of craftspeople.

Registration required, click on link above.

via Tortona, 31

Each MDW this lighting company produces some type of truly spectacular interactive installation.

Garage 21, via Archimede 26

I always make time to see Google’s MDW installation. This year the theme is “Making Sense of Color ” which aims to “revolutionize our understanding of color and its profound influence on everyday experiences.”

Palazzo Isimbardi, Corso Monforte 35

Another brand that always delivers spectacular installations during MDW. The Re/Creation exhibition is another on my must-see list.

Via Matteo Bandello, 14

Known for championing Dutch design early on, RO is a true Milan design destination, MDW or not. This year, in addition to her gallery, there she has a collection of furniture created in conjunction with Hungarian designers at the Triennale, Viale Alemagna, 6

Transitions by Stark

Sala dei Pilastri, Castello Sforzesco

Stark creates interactive, immersive experiences that have been Insta click-bait at the last few MDW. I’m hoping this installation won’t be too overpacked for a leisurely visit.

What Else…

There are lots of other group shows to check out:

Doppia Firma, Villa Mozart, Via Mozart, 9
A project that brings together European design innovation and the tradition of great artisanship by creating a unique collection of original, refined objects.

Unlimited Design Orchestra, Palazzo Litta, Corso Magenta 24
A 5Vie Design District group show.

Alcova, Villa Borsani, Via Umberto I, 148, Varedo and
Villa Bagatti Valsecchi, Via Vittorio Emanuele II, 48, Varedo
Typically a great show, but this year it may be a bit too far out of the city to get to; although the 2 & 4 lines run up there.

This Future is Currently Unavailable,
Lampo Milano, Via Valtellina, 5;
WAO PL7, Via Luigi Porro Lambertenghi, 7; and right next door,
Galleria Bonelli, Via Luigi Porro Lambertenghi, 6; and locations throughout Isola.
The theme was set to encourage designers to explore how design and new craftsmanship can shape the future.

Not Compromised,
Liceo Classico Parini, Via San Marco 2/3
Design based on human presence preserves rather than harms

Future Impact 2,
La Rotonda del Pellegrini, Via delle Ore 3
Singapore design mini show

Superdesign Show, Superstudio Più, Via Tortona 27
The off-site show that kick-started MDW. Registration required.

Belgium is Design,
Baranzate Ateliers, Via Gaudenzio Fantoli 16
If the Dutch can do it… Note, the Belgium presentation is just one part of a larger show taking place at Baranzate Ateliers.

Capsule Plaza,
Spazio Maiocchi, via Achille Maiocchi 3-5-7
and 10 Corso Como, Corso Como 10
A mix of design, architecture, fashion, tech, and more.
