Introduction to Culinary Arts (9th)

Students in Introduction to Culinary Arts will receive an overview of the restaurant industry, and learn everything about kitchen safety, including a Riverside County safe food handler certification.

Beginning culinary students explore the history of culinary arts, and how the restaurant industry evolved to give us so many options for dining.

Students also learn about nutrition. What are dietary requirements, food allergies, the benefits and risks associated with eating different foods.

This enables students to make educated choices about what they eat, but also to be able to create healthy dishes and accommodate customers with various dietary needs.



Topics covered in this class include:

  • Nutrition- for yourself and for customers

  • Food Safety- student's will earn a Riverside County food handler's certification

  • Sanitation, accident prevention, fire safety, first aid

  • History of the restaurant industry and famous Chefs

  • different segments of the restaurant business (restaurants, food trucks, food carts, fine dining, fast food, etc.)

  • Kitchen tools and equipment and how to use them.

  • Basic baking, and breakfast foods

  • learn about various ingredients- herbs, spices, flavorings,

  • how to read, convert, and resize recipes

  • Measurements and converting measurements- dry and liquid ingredients.
