The DeSales Archery Team just had one of their best performances, we scored 3272 points with our varsity team. This is tied with last year’s Sacred Heart tournament for the best score since 2016 and tied for the 2nd-best score ever by DeSales. Let us see how the archers shot.
Eight archers broke their career best or tied for it at Sacred Heart. Kyle Hardin matched his record of 294, and his all-time average is now 264. Landon McKune shot a 281 and broke his all-time record. Keegan Gallagher shot a 277, setting his personal record by a single point as he shot a 276 at St Rita. Alexander Pekez shot a 273 and beat his personal record by 2 points. Grayson Haycraft shot a 268 and beat his personal record by 7 points. Jonathan Bell and Seth Kaltofen both shot a 247. Bell tied his all-time record and Seth beat his all time record by 14 points. A large increase in production from an 1st time archer.
This tournament we saw the return from one of the seniors. Will “The Stache” Yurt came back to shoot in his first tournament of the season. He has missed some tournaments due to his participation in wrestling. He shot a 243 which is a lack of production from The Stache but this is understandable as this was his first tournament of the year. This score is still above his 8 year career average of 234, and hopefully he can get ready for state.
Riley Weber shot a nice 250 and has shown slight improvement this season. He didn’t have the best time this tournament but he has a high ceiling as an archer, his all time high score was a 284. Over his 9 year career he has an average of 243.
Tristen Pattee shot his 5th ever tournament at Sacred Heart. Tristen shot a 262, placing him within the top 10 for seniors at the tournament. He is a first year archer with an average of 263 and a personal high score of 272. What's insane is the fact that he shot this score with only 4 10s, if only just a few more of his 18.. 9s hit just a little bit more on the center, it would have been a different story. Tristen is a great archer already with this sport and he has more room for improvement.
The last senior archer is myself, and I have been doing well. At Sacred Heart I shot a season best 259, which is just 2 points higher than my season best of 257. I made some mistakes at the tournament, I accidentally shot a 2 on 10 meter after shooting what I thought was 4 10s… If I had shot a 10 instead of a 2, I would have beat my personal record of 266 by 1 point. My worst aspect this season has been dealing with the game time stress. I shot eleven 10s at the tournament and so I only really need to clean up on not giving up too many outside of the inner yellow and I should be fine. I have shot archery for 10 years and my career average is 200.
