Foxview Band Program General Info:

Beginning Band is open to all fifth and sixth-grade students.  No prior instrumental music experience is necessary.  Band class meets every other day all year, and students also receive individualized and small group lessons.  There are two concerts, one in December and May. 

CHOICE OF INSTRUMENT:

To help a student choose their instrument, students will do a mouthpiece test to determine the right fit.  Instrument choices at the beginning level are flute, clarinet, trumpet, and trombone.  After one successful semester, students may try out other instruments if they’d like to switch.  Optional band instruments to switch to are oboe, saxophone, french horn, tuba, or percussion.  Students interested in starting in the percussion section must have at least 2 or more years of private music lessons outside of school say on piano or guitar for example reading notes and rhythms (NOT playing guitar reading TAB only).  Students will take a rhythm test and play a song for the band directors to show their ability to read music and keep a good rhythm.  

Foxview Band course goals... are to have fun while learning the fundamental skills involved in playing a musical instrument.  Students will further develop knowledge of music theory, practice good listening skills, and reinforce good practice habits.   Band students learn and perform every day in Band, and we look forward to preparing your future Band student for the middle and high school band programs!
