Potrero National High School students participates in Tambobong Dance Festival this coming May 20, 2023 at the Malabon Sports Complex.
On March 30, 2023, Sir Marlon Feliciano and Malabon Tourism oriented the participants regarding the details on the Tambobong festival. A total of 45 dancers and 10 props men were selected out of all the auditionees.
The chosen students practice their routine every afternoon, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the Potrero Multipurpose Hall on Atis Road. Student participants are from the A.M. session to give way to the rehearsals in the afternoon so that they will not miss their classes.
"It is an honor to be part of the Tambobong Festival, and yes, it is hard to participate in this kind of contest because there are too many sacrifices [that] I or we have to face just to win for our school," a participant said, referring to the adjustments and sacrifices they had to make for the success of the festival.
Despite all setbacks, participants still receive endless support from their trainers, Jhunval Escosio, John Carlo Bonifacio, Marvin Mendiola, and Mergin Macasieb, all of whom are alumni of Potrero National High School; teachers such as Mr. Melvin Madali, Mr. Arnulfo Abbang Jr., and Ms. Angelica Ambagay; and the Saliwindakan Dance Company, Potrero Youth Organization (PUYO), GPTA, SSG, and the entirety of Barangay Potrero led by Hon. Sheryl C. Nolasco.
"I feel so happy," another student participant stated, "I am grateful because I get to be chosen to be one of those students who will be participating in the Tambobong Festival," they added.

YES-O and the Science Club joined forces in a project entitled "Trash bin made out of PET bottles” where an estimated 200 post-consumer polyethylene terephthalate plastic bottles were used in constructing three new garbage containers for Potrero National High School.
According to Mrs. Renalyn Padua Barrion, YES-O adviser, the said project was spearheaded by Mrs. Rowena Dianzon, Science Department Head Teacher, last February 2023. The preceding effort was intended to provide a solution to the school's enormous PET bottle collection and was presented as a School Investigatory Project.
Miguel Santinas, one of the students who participated in part in achieving this project, said that the construction of the project began on March 16, 2023, and was successfully finished and put into use on April 17, 2023.
Yes-O Club members, Science Club members, as well as Grade 8 students of Potrero National High School helped each other to make this project a success. From collecting used plastic bottles, stripping off the labels, and building the base, to individually poking holes in each bottle. This endeavor required so much effort that it is understandable why it took them over a month to complete it.
The trash bin has a diameter of 51 centimeters and is 108 centimeters tall which can accumulate stacks of waste each day.
Additionally, the project “trash bin made out of PET bottles” was aligned with DepEd’s MATATAG agenda: take good care of learners by promoting learner well-being, inclusive education, and a positive learning environment; and one of DepEd’s core values, makakalikasan.

Potrero National High School will begin implementing a new class schedule on May 2, 2023.
This modification in the schedule is SDO Malabon's resilient response to the high heat index that is now affecting the whole country, including the National Capital Region.
Dr. Olivia Q. Martin, School Principal IV, convened an emergency meeting of teachers on August 24, 2023, to discuss the implementing guidelines for the seamless transition to this new class program.
During the meeting, Dr. Martin explained the various heat index classifications and the potential dangers that each heat level might pose to a person.
Many reports on the adverse effects of this extreme heat index, specifically how it hinders the learning process, have been circulating on various platforms.
To guarantee the safety of students and teachers, the school's administration chose to take this measure while still considering the learning recovery from the previous school years' learning gap.
Meanwhile, the NCR is under a 'cautious' level of heat index, ranging from 27 to 32 degrees Celsius, and this proactive execution of two-day in morning sessions and two-day out with one remedial day scheme is in place until everyone's safety is ensured as students resume face-to-face classes.
Below are the details of the schedule scheme for your information and guidance.
