IN SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL IN DIGOS CITY, WE HAIL!
The SCHOOL OF CHOICE...
Nomadism is a term associated with the first few years of existence of Senior High School in Digos City. The school did not stay continually in the same place for it has to move periodically for a reason that the school does not have its own land to build structures for the school children.
Despite the inconvenience that teachers and students had experienced, Senior High School in Digos City did not stop in making a name in the community. The absence of water, electricity, comfortable armed chairs and tables, and other instructional materials were not reasons to be unmotivated, the school and the people behind it consider it as an inspiration to do its job in bringing out the best of the learners.
The more obstruction and inconvenience that everyone encountered, the more it become focused and become positively driven in its quest in providing quality teaching to all its clientele.
Two years after the launching of the Senior High program as part of the Basic Education of the country, Senior High School in Digos City had finally found its permanent place to reside. A generous individual for Barangay Igpit in the person of Rolanda Panasilan had lent two (2) hectares of land for Senior High School to use for 50 years.
In 2018, we moved to Barangay Igpit after being relocated twice to the campus of Digos City National High School where we were adopted for two consecutive years. Despite the nomadic life that we have been through, we continue to grow both in enrollees' and students’ achievements.
The new school location may not be an easy access and a burden to everyone, yet everyone remains positive that through this School Improvement Plan, Senior High School in Digos City may find ways through the help and support of our stakeholders. That someday and through years of planning the burden of high fares may be given a solution.
Along the southern foothills of the majestic Mt. Apo and a few kilometers away from the western shores of the Davao Gulf lies the peaceful place of Barangay Igpit, Digos City. The place, especially where the Senior High school in Digos City is located, is surrounded by beautiful trees and where the world’s source of high-quality sweet bananas grows, filling the air with eye-relaxing green color. The early settlers on the southern part of the plains planted rice for consumption and part of the areas in the eastern meadows are covered with Cavendish banana trees that produce enormous bunches of full-sized fruit in great quality and commercial quantities. On the western part along the banks of Balutakay streams are the giant coconut trees bowing the fruit-bearing trees where the birds sing their lullabies.
On May 1, 1990, there were only 416 households with 2,129 inhabitants. Thirty years later (May 1, 2020), the entire population almost doubled with 3,713 settlers. On the other hand, Igpit is located on the eastern part of the island of Mindanao particularly the southern part of Davao at roughly 6.7355, 125.3261. Having these coordinates, the elevation is calculated to be 16.8 meters (55.1 feet) above mean sea level. This invites more settlers to occupy the place. Schools were built for the children (both Elementary and Junior high school. (Source: Philatlas.com)
The Local Government Unit of Digos City granted a two-hectare land for the Senior High School in Digos City. The construction of the three high-rise buildings was started in School Year 2015-2016. It was in May 2019 when the Brigada Eskwela Kick-Off was held on the grounds of Senior High School in Digos City campus, inviting everyone to witness the school for the opening of classes in June of the same year. The school was first surrounded by naked ground where the rocky soil is exposed to the scorching heat of the sun, reflecting its humidity to the windows of the school buildings. That situation brought discomfort to everyone. Dr. Raquel L. Cedeǹo, the first school principal after the assigned Officer-In-Charge. Madam Imelda T. Cardines, the Education Program Supervisor of the Schools Division of Digos City, initiated the tree planting, and the buildings were surrounded with beautiful flowers to fill the school environment with life.
The school beautification was continued by Madam Elizabetha R. Bueron, the newly assigned school principal of that same year. The trees grow with healthy leaves and the other plants produce beautiful flowers that ignite happiness and relaxation among teachers and learners. The cool and solitary school buildings that are surrounded by green plants and colorful flowers have been the ideal place for everyone which is commonly referred to as a niche - the home where the heart is.
Brigada Eskwela has been the rendezvous of collaboration, volunteerism, and strong partnerships brought about by the demands of close family relationships among school workers and stakeholders. These are just a few of the core values embodied by the teachers, parents, students, and stakeholders in the barangay and the city government that prepares Senior High School in Digos City to face all the challenges that may come along. One of the great challenges was the strong typhoon that brought an overflowing large amount of water that even reached the floors, a foot high, of the Bread and Pastry Laboratory. Every time the rain falls, the waters would overflow since the other parts of the area are not yet filled in with mountain-mixed soil and gravel.
In the last quarter of 2019, Digos City was devastated by a series of powerful earthquakes, which did not spare the school, causing damage to the school structures. It was then followed by the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic which brings fear among learners, teachers, and parents. With all its resources and effort, Senior High School has been doing its best to provide ongoing quality basic education while safeguarding everyone's safety and health in the new normal situation. The ship must sail on, the buildings must be standing still to give hope to everyone despite being used as an isolation center (building 1, a 10-classroom building near the highway) for this pandemic situation. The Stand-alone Senior High School in Digos City has been a model of strength and resiliency. It remained devoted to serving the people of Davao del Sur despite its nomadic-like state when it first began its operations in 2016. When Datu Roger A. Manapol, the new principal, was installed in April 2020 to manage the school, additional buildings are believed to rise this year. The multi-purpose building and the covered court are presently under construction.
Today, despite the new normal circumstance, Senior High School in Digos City has been able to sustain a learning environment despite the obvious lack of money. The grass has been trimmed on a regular basis to protect everyone's safety from the snakes that prowl around the school grounds. Simple landscaping, which involves trimming the plants and trees that have been planted, displays the amazing beauty of the campus in all her glory, along with a thousand beautiful sparks of colorful flowers that are too bright to be overlooked. With its grandeur, the school maintains its magnificent distinction in all facets of its clientele's health: physical, mental, and spiritual.

Having been the first Senior High School Stand-Alone of the Division of Digos City, the Senior High School teaching force had undergone a two-month-long training at the University of Mindanao, Matina Campus, Davao City to prepare newly hired teachers for the senior high school program.
This initiative of the Department of Education in 2016 equipped newly-hired teachers of senior high to be adept with the demands of the senior high school program. Additionally, the best thing about the roster of teachers is the reality that some teachers are non-education graduates but are graduates of other courses which are considered as the strength of the teaching force since they are masters in their fields like Accounting and Business Management, Computer Engineering, Nursing, Hotel and Restaurant Management and more.
Moreover, the five impressive concrete school buildings that stood at the heart of the banana plantation can cater to a thousand learners with a guarantee that they are safe and protected.
The school’s location is considered the greatest challenge of the administration since the fare becomes an obstacle for those who wanted to enroll. This dilemma had been aired to the local government unit and with LTFRB Regional Office and as of this time, nothing has been ruled out regarding the request for a new route.
Senior High School in Digos City has been serving the locality and the neighboring towns for six (6) years. In fact, the school has been producing hundreds of graduates every school year. Those students who are in the TVL track specifically the Bread and Pastry Production, Food and Beverage Services, ICT, and Caregiving were all NCII passers since 2018. The school’s Academic Track such as Science Technology and Mathematics strand, Accounting and Business Management Strand, Humanities and Social Sciences Strand, and General Academic Strand has been consistently producing quality graduates who become DOST scholars and some have been accommodated as university scholars like the University of Philippines, Philippine National Police Academy, Philippine Military Academy and other government-financed universities and colleges in the country.
Senior High School in Digos City is a growing school community, its existence is empowered by the teaching and non-teaching staff, thus, it is just necessary to have a 5-year roadmap of interventions for it has proven its worth. Moreover, its proper implementation will surely lead to the improvement of the services and facilities. This collaborative work between the school, students, and stakeholders ensure the success of all learners. This too is for the fulfillment of DepEd’s mission in emphasizing the stewardship of the school administrator and staff of the institution to ensure an enabling and supportive environment for effective learning to happen and to actively engage in sharing the responsibility in developing life-long learners.
Senior High School in Digos City believes that with the existence of the School Governing Council and other stakeholders, the identified Priority Improvement Areas will soon be realized through time.
The planning of the School Improvement Plan is a collaborative effort of the School Planning Team and School Governing Council. Aside from the SPT and SGC, program holders are also enjoined in the crafting of the School Improvement Plan to end up a plan that is planned by all.
In May 2024, Senior High School in Digos City finally changed its name to Digos City Senior High School by Regional Memorandum 11 s. 2024.
