GUIDELINES ON THE USE OF MOST ESSENTIAL LEARNING COMPETENCIES (MELCS)

The Department of Education commits on sustaining the delivery of quality, accessible, and relevant, and liberating education even in these challenging situation. As a response to COVID-19 pandemic, the DepEd releases the Most Essential Learning Competencies(MELCS) to address the challenge of the pandemic in the education system in the Philippines for S.Y. 2020-2021.
K to 12 MELCS with CG CODES
The Department of Education provides the Most Essential Competencies from kinder to Grade 12. It contains the quarter the competency should be taught, content standards, performance standards, the most essential competencies, the duration or length of day/week it should be taught, and the curriculum code.

Rationale
The public health emergency brought about by the COVID-19 calls for the Department of Education (DepEd) to be innovative and resourceful in delivering quality, accessible, relevant, and liberating education. In response to this emergency, DepEd developed the Basic Education Learning Continuity Plan(BE-LCP) to ensure that learning opportunities are provided to our learners in a safe manner, through different learning delivery. In line with this, the Department of Education, through its Regional and Schools Division Offices undertake the urgent and necessary development, production and provision of learning resources..

Interim Guidelines for Assessment and Grading in Light of the Basic Education Learning Continuity Plan
The COVID-19 pandemic is really a challenge in our basic education. And as we prepare for the school year 2020-2021, we must adapt to new normal set-up in education. There are alternative learning modalities that were offered by different schools to ensure that the curricular goals are achieved. And those alternative learning modalities called of a reconstruction of the assessment and grading in this "new normal" education. As a response, the Department of Education release the DepEd Order 031, Series of 2020.
