The Lal-lo National High School is directed to focus on the development of the Department of Education and also aims to explore and cultivate students with special inclination to the arts like Music, Visual Arts, Theater Arts, Media Arts, Dance and Creative Writing.
This objective is achieved through the school’s Special Program in the Arts (SPA) Curriculum for Junior High School . This special curriculum is deemed to help students in their preparation for life and work regardless of their chosen career in the future.
Hence, the school’s SPA was opened in Lal-lo National High School on June 2005. It is already in its 13th year of implementation. The Lal-lo National High School is the only school in the Schools Division Office of Cagayan that offers the SPA curriculum. The Lal-lo National High School opened the curriculum in compliance with Republic Act 10533 otherwise known as K to 12 Curriculum.
It is strategically located and equipped with resources such as libraries, instructional materials as well as local artists and musicians. It has a track record of active participation and winnings in cultural competitions for the past years. Furthermore an administrator who is supportive and interested in the arts and Teachers with strong interest in the Arts and are willing to be trained. There are also additional classrooms used as drama room, music room, practice room, computer rooms, dance room, and visual arts room.
The curriculum is the general high school curriculum with enhanced humanities subject offerings. The program offers six areas:
1. MUSIC- Band, Rondalla & Vocal (choir)
– designed for dedicated students with interest in vocal or instrumental music.
2. VISUAL ARTS
– helps the students discover what they can produce through their own creativity through paintings, print making, creative crafts and designs, computer graphics, sculpture, etc.
3. THEATER ARTS
-emphasizes on group work skills and live performance of spoken text in a number of styles and genres; contemporary and classical acting techniques will be introduced.
4. DIGITAL ARTS
-teaches students to use elements and tools of current and emerging technologies to create works that express feeling and ideas; students will be trained to analyze and create work though photography, video , audio, computer arts, interactive media, and film production.
5. CREATIVE WRITING/MALIKHAING PAGSUSULAT
– trains the students to explore and write their own ideas and experiences; they will study and work on all genres like poetry, fiction, non-fiction, etc.
6. DANCE
– develops student’s techniques, movement, vocabulary and a deeper understanding of dance as a form of communication and expression
The program aims to enhance the mathematical abilities, science skills and English proficiency of the learners. What makes the curriculum different from the regular class is the added elective subjects like Developmental Reading, Earth and Environmental Science, Research/Statistic, Biotechnology, Advanced Physics, and Advanced Chemistry.
The Special program in Journalism (SPJ) is developed to enrich the experiences,hone the journalistic skills and competencies of student-writers and to strengthen free and responsible journalism.
This program supports R.A. 7079 (Campus Journalism Act) which mandates the Department of Education “to conduct and implement programs in various aspects of journalism.”
The program is a four-year course in journalism at the junior high school level. It is designed to develop the learners’ skills in mass communication, print, online and broadcast media.
Program Standards:
The learner demonstrates understanding of the basic principles and theories of journalism, its practices and techniques, and responsibly applies them as tools for effective communication and information.
CURRICULUM
Grade 7: Basic Journalism
The learner demonstrates understanding of the basic principles, theories, practices, and techniques of print journalism, its history, legal and ethical standards by producing newsletters responsive to individual, community, societal, and global needs.
Grade 8: Print/ Online Publication
The learner demonstrates understanding of the advanced and broader applications of the concepts and techniques of print journalism by producing an eight-page printed or online news publication responsive to individual, community, societal, and global demands.
Grade 9: Radio Broadcasting
The learner demonstrates understanding of the practices, techniques, and fundamentals of broadcast journalism by producing radio news programs in response to the personal, school, and community needs.
Grade 10: TV Broadcasting
The learner demonstrates understanding of the practices, techniques, and fundamentals of broadcast journalism by producing TV news programs in response to personal, school, and community needs.
