A dramatic shift is sweeping through the schools. Kindergartens and early elementary students can easily navigate Android Phones and tablets. Learners are highly relational and demand quick access to knowledge. More than that, they are capable of engaging in learning at a whole new level making them globally-oriented and holistically developed. They are called 21st Century Learners equipped with the essential competencies, skills and values for both life-long learning and employment. Parallel to K to 12 Education Programs, 21st Century learners possess 4 fundamental skills prior to holistic development: Learning and Innovation Skills, Effective Communication Skills, Life and Career Skills, and Information, Media and Technology Skills. In order to attain these qualifications and engage the students in public schools, the Department of Education (DepEd), through the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Unit, boosts its efforts in the nationwide computerization projects for all schools and DepEd offices.
