ISAT-CABANNUNGAN ANNEX - "Attaining Greater Heights" 2021 Virtual Graduation
Project Setting Indoor Gardens and Landscape Around (SIGLA)
Project SIGLA endeavors to provide an area where learners can establish school gardens to sustain environmental consciousness, to plant flowers, vegetables and trees in order to make the school green and beautiful and to instill the values of environmental consciousness, teamwork, unity, volunteerism, and community service (Briones, 2018).
In support to the Gulayan sa Paaralan Program established through DepEd Memorandum No. 293, s. 2007, and the School Inside a Garden (SIGA) launched through DECS Memo No. 77, s. 1995, the school would like to promote the creation of nurseries that will serve as laboratory for learners, strengthen the integration of environmental education, and to inculcate love for nature.
Project Summary
Learners of today’s generation are now forgetting the importance of valuing their surroundings. They can easily throw trashes anywhere, picking flowers, picking leaves, destroying plants and worst ignoring their environment that in which they didn’t notice that their actions contribute to global warming. They didn’t care that the suffocation they are encountering is due to few plants and trees planted inside the school which can no longer filter all carbon dioxides and convert it to healthy oxygen. https://scienceline.ucsb.edu/getkey.php?key=2860
Despite the continuous reminders of teachers, learners are still ignorant of our environmental problem. What the school needs to do is to keep pushing learners to love their environment and their school. In order to address this issue Project SIGLA would like to bring back the enthusiasm of the learners in loving their environment.
Project SIGLA with its project: construction of plant boxes will add beauty to various school areas plus defining its purpose – to build camaraderie to all sorts of learners, to engage artistic creativity of learners, to inculcate in the heart of the learners the love for environment and to stand as advocates of nature supporting national greening program and be eco – friendly citizens.
As the team will be inspired by the power of we, the togetherness of school, faculty and staff, stakeholders, school partners and all learners are unitedly working to make this possible. Assistance from this group of persons even to their littlest contribution through donations and manpower will indeed be part of this success. In this open communication and support towards one another, the project will be done in a span of five months from January to May during Brigada Eskwela and with an estimated budget of Php. 30, 000.00.
Project SIGLA would like to support and address the following issues:
a. learners who are not engaged to their environment;
b. malnutrition (severely wasted, wasted, overweight and obesity)
c. suffocation due to few numbers of planted trees and plants; and
d. not inviting surrounding and home to stay.
Project Background
Isabela School of Arts and Trades – Cabannungan Annex, in her fourteen years of standing in her name was never been seen to her beauty. Despite her existence, the fame and pride that she wants to bring for the sake of the learners’ identity was still not her fortune.
It is true that the beauty is in the eye of the beholder, however, appreciation to her beauty is still doubtable, for the school doesn’t have enough facility to showcase in all clients and stakeholders; knowing that school gardens and landscapes bring face and adds aesthetic to the school’s surroundings is also lacking.
Aside from this concern, learners are no longer fond care takers of the school environment, instead of supporting the school and to cooperate in beautifying the school, learners were the ones who were ruining the unending start of trying to become better.
As reflected in the school Form eight, based on the recorded data from school year 2017 – 2019, severely wasted learners have increased 1. 17%, wasted learners have increased 2.13%, overweight learners have increased 2.54 % and obese learners have still the same percentage which is very alarming that the school needs to make a way in order to save learners in malnutrition and that one way to eliminate the problem is the feeding program through balancing diet of learners with proper nutrition from the organic vegetables planted in the school area. And that in this concern, learners, teachers and stakeholders must do their counterpart to help one another in building and sustaining vegetable gardens in the school for the continuous support of the feeding program.
In similar ways, this project would also like to develop the camaraderie and family not only inside the four corners of the school but also a continuing spirit of friendship within the whole community. The collaboration of learners in sharing their ideas and artistic creativity in maintaining their school plot areas is another purpose to have http://www.novelguide.com/reportessay/creative-writing/personal-essays/building-friendship-planting-garden.
Thus, Project SIGLA has conceived projects to address the needs of learners to wit;
Construct plant boxes around the school;
Sustain gardens and landscapes; and
Supply feeding program, organic vegetables from sustained gardens.
